I didn't say it was right, just what has happened in the past. You should know the danger if holding him. If you turn him out now I belive he will be there for his bottles, not like you are condemning him to death only expanding his world. If caught you should fight that law as compassion for wild life should not be against the law. I said there is ONE place in WV that dose have the ability to take them (dont think at this point it would be the best for your fawn hopefully yours is about ready for weaning) would love to see more Joel Rosenthal is the only one and a link to his book http://www.amazon.com/Bambi-Supremes-My-Fight-Animals/dp/0985327707 Don't remember the name of his place. Please read some of the warnings on this forum on bottle raising bucks, your little boy will go up. Only trying to help. I wish you and the fawn the best of luck.

here is a link to an article on Point of View Farm and a snip of the write up :Rosenthal says people who discover injured wild animals should contact him, not state officials.

"The reality is - anyone finding an injured or orphaned animal in West Virginia, who would really like it taken care of, should never, ever, ever contact the DNR," he said. "They will kill the animal. If they contact me and they bring it to me, not only will the animal get the best treatment that I can provide for it, but that particular individual will also be protected from the document, from the contract I have with the State of West Virginia, from any kind of legal implications by their handling the animal." I appolize if I over reacted or misinterpreted the message however someone would have to be stupid to not know after this many weeks the legality of keeping this fawn. Many of us around here find ourselves in a pretty bad possition sometimes., though many take them to raise as pets, some do not.

I feel that though it is probably too early, but I will do his morning feeding in a couple of weeks and leave the pin open and if he gets out ok and maybe he will return for the evening feeding... this all seems too much.. He will be 12 weeks old by then and there are several 'deer families' around here that he has actually seen. so with any luck.

Thanks :)

I will keep this link and info handy wish I had had this a few months ago.... thanks for your help... just been stressful.
