I would like some help explaining the garlic in the feed to keep the flies off my deer...... I use fly traps and catch THOUSANDS of flies but of course there is still quite a few on the deer. If Im mixing garlic in my feed myself, Do I just use powdered garlic or?????

AND how long does it take to work? If I start right away will it take a few days, a week, a month?

Thanks...

Chris, call Ron Bowersox at Windy Hill Whitetails (717) 648-2720 about this issue, he has used garlic in his feed and can help answer your question.

We use garlic in the feed as well. We mix about 7lbs per ton. We just tried it this year for the first time and there are many less flies on the deer than last year. We also use the fly traps and catch tons of them. We just buy the garlic in bulk at SAM's Club.

We too use 7lbs of granulated garlic to the ton with good results. Our bottle feds also get a treatment of cylence once a month. Rick

I have had the garlic mixed in my feed that ADM makes year round and they were still terrible this summer. I sprayed the pens down with permethrin 10% and I can honestly say there isn't a fly or mosquito anywhere and the deer are so much happier. I also sprayed tempo all around the outside and in the grass and trees where the flys and mosquitos hide during the day and it works wonders, tempo isn't recommended inside the pen. I'ts very reasonable as far as price goes and it lasts several days unless it rains, maybe 10 bucks to spray down 5 acres. I use a boomless atv sprayer and it works great, spray permethrin where they lay an it will get on the hair and works excellent. I wish I would have done it a month ago. Good luck
