Okay so we're building pens and I was wondering I'm using 8"-13" round 12' telephone post how far do I space them and should I use t-posts in between the large post or just all post. But mainly how far to space thanks!

My perimeter is 6-7" poles at every 30' with a short post in the middle. Then some interior fence I just went all big poles at 20'. Just as a reference.

I went with 6x6's cemented in for the corner posts. On the outside fence i went 15 feet between posts and 20 feet on inside fence. On fences between pens i put another 6ft at 10ft so i can put 3ft or so of rough cut lumber to stop the bucks from fighting and fawns sticking their head through.

Just make sure to get your fence pulled all the way down to the ground and put your 2ft preditor fence along the bottom as you go along!

When installing 20-96-6 game fence, proper installation with t-post and line boss construction is 4) t posts about 18-22 ft apart. A line boss is then placed every 5th pole for stability.

The last thing you should do is cement a treated lumber pole. The cement will draw water into the bottom of the post and they will rot at the the base.

In addition center spun poles, t post and telephone poles are all recommended to be used over any type of square cut post as the heart of the tree has been preserved thus extending the life of the pole, while also maintaining the structural integrity of it.

I guess i must have gotten some special wood. 6x6 cemented in every corner for 14 years with no issues! Works for me!!

Super! I hope you have continued success with them. I have never seen a professional fencing service use any square stock nor has any fence manufacturer (that I have heard of) recommended them for installation.

Again, to your continued success!

You have been very lucky! Also the treating was changed in 2005. The new stuff is not as good. I used 6x6 and 4x4 and concreted them all in in 2008. Almost everyone of them rotted off in 3 years. The rest looks like bananas they are so crooked. Not sure if you are lucky or I am just unlucky!

Using telephone poles is the only way I will go, spaced 20ft on outside and 30ft on the inside. I seen a buck snap 4x4 post in the isle way as we run does in the barn for AI. And again Josh is right about concrete and treated lumber. When I concrete any post I always let the concrete soak the water out of the ground, never mix it first with water.

Maybe the older wood from years back! Not sure but knockin on wood i guess! lol

Okay so how do the pros set corners.... And I'm thinking about setting each telephone pole at 30' with a tposts in the middle at 15' from each telephone post good or bad idea......

I take a 2x8 from top of corner post down to the bottom of another post set 10' apart and another 2x8 accross the top. T post will work fine unless you decide to put shade cloth on it then you will have an 8" hole from the post rocking back and forth.

The pros set corners with a combination of cross-beams and high-tensile wire. It's hard to explain, but clear if you can see it somewhere.

Telephone poles at 30' OC with T-posts at 15' should make a very nice fence for you. You could probably get away with 40/20 if you had your fence good and tight.

I like to do mine with the double 'H' brace going in both directions!

I'm not concerned with braces and tension wire..... Are you guys just tampin the corner post like the line POST?

Ezra, Your corners are the key to your whole fence, build a good solid corner and stretch your wire tight and your fence will last a long time. You are on the right track with the telephone poles, they are usually treated with creosote which can last for decades. I really think you can get by with a telephone pole every 60 ft. with 2 t-posts in between but if your putting shade cloth on it then I would go every other post. Double brace posts will help keep your corner strong, just make sure your brace wire is going from the TOP of your brace post to the BOTTOM of your corner post, if it's the other way around, it wont hold your fence tight.

I guess I'm missing it but for the corner no concrete right.... And just tamp this post? Thirty feet with a t-post between is the plan. Just curious to what yall set your corners in or with sorry.

Like i said, 12 plus yrs with 6x6 cemented corners with no problems. I always make an H on the corners going both ways and i always use the turn into the ground anchors kinda like the state does on some poles. I use the 4ft anchors and turn them in all 4 feet into the ground. Maybe thats why i have never had a problem with my corners. They are rock solid.
