I've started quite a few fawns on the bottle but it never seems to get any easier........I got a few that are fighting me tooth and nail...........I use pritchard nipples...I stimulate them (the best that I can when their fighting me) Trust me they may think they won the battle but I always win the war....I won't give up.....but I just was wondering if anyone out their has any tricks up their sleeves for getting those tuff ones to take to the bottle......

Dennis, seems like there is almost always a battle. Most of the time we try to pull in the evening. Then the next morning it is easier. The most willing ones have been the ones that (due to circumstances) we pulled at birth or just a couple hrs old, and put on colostrum supplement. Good luck with the battles. Allen

Drew ya kinda lost me on getting them started. ???? Not sucking? Can`t get them to latch on to the nipple?

I make sure I know their hungry. I`ll get on my knees and put the fawn in my crotch so it can`t back away and I raise their head and slide my thumb in the corner of their mouth to make em open enough to slip the nipple in. Having a beard helps because they feel the hair and must feel comfortable and start butting and sucking. Watch your teeth !

I start every fawn this way and the only ones that resist and just bite the nipple get put back and doesn`t get fed until the next feeding. The next time they give in and suck it down in 2 seconds. BAM !! Your mom.

We always worry too much that they are going to starve and keep pushing em to eat. Normally the problem kidos will come around when the belly is empty. They are just like kids. Some just have a stubborn attatude. PATIENCE ! PATIENCE ! PATIENCE.
