Make sure to thank God for your healthy deer. I would have loved to have given away the ones on which I have spent thousands back in August instead of burying them this month from EHD. This virus certainly changes ones perspective. I am thankful for what we have left! I don't know how many that will be?

Wish there was some way to get pics of all these deer dieing to ryan sabatage and on the news. It would be a real eye opener. You need to take pictures of all them together if ya can. And make sure your dnr guy sees them. My guy tried to blow it off 2 yrs ago until I showed him a buck shedding his hooves. It made him think for sure

Amen Jonathan! God is good. Every time I lose a deer, I am very upset at first. But after I settle down and have some prayer time, I thank God for the time I had with the animal, and I thank him for taking it, because I fully trust he will provide the animals I need. Just because one looks better on paper, dosen't mean it will produce the best deer For Your program. Remember, God is an all knowing being, even a simple leaf fall won't fall without His knowing. That gives me faith and confidence in his providing.

Thank you forum members for the respect you show to those who like to express their faith. I often express my faith on here, and I am so thankful that people on here are tolerant, even of they don't particularly believe or agree with religion. All these years, no one has ever slammed me for doing so, which isn't true in most places now a days, lol. So thank you for post like these!

are you kidding me?who do you thank when you lose a $4000.00 buck?people if your deer are healthy you are doing this correctly so thank yourself.

We have more then a good GOD  we have a awesome . GOD. We are only the care takers of his animals doing the best we can with what we have. We are praying  the gains will out number the losses.

Ohio whitetails. I don't think a $4000 buck exist in PA anymore, lol. sad but true. ( prices are awful again this year) but seriously, I feel your pain. Going back to last year, I have lost 19 bucks in a row without getting a dime for any of them. However, when i look back over the awful mess my farms become over the last 16 months I must Praise God for his will that is being done at this moment in my life. Sometimes when we pray, we get caught up in our wants and our wills to be done. However Christ commands us to pray that HIS will be done (Matthew 6:10) That's not always easy to accept. It's obviously easier to praise him on the good days, and not so easy on the bad. But he giveth and he taketh. I don't blame any of it on my ability to care for my deer, I've always tried to do the best I can. Sometimes the Lord must "break" our wills through hard life lessons, and situations we dread going through.

Hang in there Ohio whitetails, they are just animals. They will never fail at disappointing you, but they should also bring you happiness more often than not. If they don't, you shouldn't be doing this. Remember, many states don't even allow deer farming, so just being allowed to do it is a blessing!

Excellent point Matt.  Also, our whole purpose is to bring praise to God while we are here, not to raise deer.  Having said that, I absolutely love raising deer, even during the tuff times.  God has provided deer and all the animals of the earth and allowed us to have dominion over them.  I'm thankful for that and I take animal husbandry very seriously.  I always try to see the silver lining.  For instance, I lost 3/4 buck fawns this year to whatever killed them all over our Commonwealth but I talked to someone today that lost 18 buck fawns.  Both my yearlings damaged their racks early but my breeder, Lake Effect, did not and he is still growing right now, September 6th!  There is always a silver lining, you just need to find it.  Also, as Matt stated, sometimes God has to guide us with certain life events that we don't understand at the time.

Ohio whitetails, it could be worse you could be burying 5-7 a day, we are well over 100 at this point.  I have bawled my eyes out losing my bottle fed girls. So dont cry over $4k because it could be worse.  A LOT WORSE.

A little off point but the EHD is a million times more of a problem than CWD to wildlife and private owned deer and elk.  We should all pray the Fish & game would spend more money on a cure for EHD rather than worrying about CWD which kills next to nothing in our wildlife.   I'm very sorry for those of you that are having this devastation on your deer from EHD.

I'm VERY sorry for all of you that lost so many animals!! Being new, first time farmer, I kind of feel unworthy that my few boys and girls are doing so well, when I hardly had to put any effort/stress into them, just doing the basics. But the one thing a dear friend told me over and over again prior to even starting to build a pen was that I will lose some of them and I can't let it effect me. If I couldn't handle to have deer die I should not get into deer farming. I see now from all of your posts why he kind of "beat" that into my head.

When I lost his little doe fawn that I attempted to raise and tame he told me to not let it spoil my day because he wouldn't let it spoil his. Hard, but doable.

I'm Amish/Mennonite, scriptural, plain church and I pray that our Lord may let my "business" prosper, if it's not against His will. The brotherhood actually prayed for guidance when things were in the planning stages. Upon being at peace with all the aspects involved and considering I'll need help (they build my pens) and considering my abilities/dedication to my "animal family" they got busy, rolled up their sleeves, dedicated their time and energy and built pens. Feeling like I'm in God's will and having the support of my brotherhood is priceless. He owns all creatures and I feel privileged to be a steward of them for Him.

With that in mind I pity Ohio Whitetails who sounds rather bitter instead of "looking up" and wonder "Lord where did I do wrong, please guide me and show me." Relying on ourselves will never work long term, I learned that before I became a Christian. Ohio would do good if they realized that otherwise the Lord might do some more 'teaching'.

May He bless you all for your devotion!!!
