Just a quick question. I have been trying to research about guineas. I know they came from Africa and that they eat deer ticks and other little creatures. Would there be any conflict between them and deer if they were put in pens with the deer? Whats your opinion?

Thanks

Just watch for Coccida from birds. Not good for deer!

I know a guy that has gineas and chickens with his deer. He has large pens with lots of grass and clover, he hasn't had any problems with the deer getting sick yet and I think what helps him is his large pens. It gives the deer and chickens room to spread out and not be concentrated in a small muddy space. Anytime you have good healthy grass in the pens, you will naturally have a lot less bacteria than a pens that's tramped to the mud because the grass helps absorbs some of the deer waste. However there is always still a risk when you put any poultry in, especially if they are getting into the deer's feeder and making messes around the feed. I have been thinking about adding a few turkeys to my deer pens, but I am afraid the turkeys will attract attention from foxes or coyotes, or neiborhood dogs. So that's why I don't have any in my pens.

Had some friends that had them. They were fine in the pens, but the only problem was they kept disappearing!! The last one alive they seen a buck that had killed it and was eating it!!

I've been thinking of letting mine in the pens.  Some guys that are into rotational grazing put chickens in the pens after the animals move on to the next pen.  They scratch the poop and eat insect / fly larva.  I think this may work at reducing some fly but I'm not sure.  I have chickens and guineas and I might try it with 3 guineas first.
