Hi there from the great white neighbour to the north!
SE British Columbia Canada to be precise.
Not a deer farmer yet, but planning to be in the next few years. Mainly Fallows(can keep them under game-farming permit), maybe Red stags or Nilgai(if someone at the F&G would get back to me on are they legal here or not.. it appears they do not like giving answers if its to species not listed on their controlled list or anywhere else that says "you may not...." or "only if in possession of licence so-and-so...").
Right now just in the planning stages for fencing and handling facilities, hoping to do it right from the start(or pretty darn close, mistakes will happen and fine tuning will need to be done regardless).
Hoping to supplement income at the ranch eventually with selling venison to local restaurants and health food stores and butcher shops as well as online, as all Venison for sale locally is currently being shipped in from out of province.
Although mainly I just love Deer(just to keep and see in pasture), but it doesn't hurt to have a bit of a plan for any excess and the family is more on board with this expensive endeavour if there is a possibility of getting some money back lol
So right now I just creep forums, looking for design ideas, reading up on any troubleshooting others have encountered etc etc until all this forsaken (new) Snow melts and I can walk the boundaries of my imagined pens to see if and how we go about starting the build, what is feasible now just for start up and how to go about expanding later on.
Cheers,
Anna
