I have a 1yr old buck that is getting thin and his hair fluted out so I darted and gave him wormer and baytril 100 mg/ml 4cc he weight is approx 60lbs

after 2weeks not much change I have dart him again with baytril 100mg/ml in a 2cc dart for 4 days in a roll and still not much of a change

I have notice that my baytril exp date is april 2008 do you think that might be the problem with his not getting better I keep it in the house where it will not get hot

he will be just standing still and start breathing fast like he is having trouble catch his breath

what should i try next

Had it been long since the last worming...When ...What kinds did you use.

Is he snotty or coughing head low???

Why do you think pneumonia?

anything else odd?

Lonestar, there are several different strains of pneumonia..They may change year to year also.. If you give an antibotic and it don't show results then change to something else.. Draxin is good especially if you have to put it in a dart. Micotil is also very good.. I have had great luck with both...

If you put him down here is my method that has worked great for me on my adult bucks but you might need to lower the dose with a 60lbs ...

Draxin 3cc

Baytril under skin 10 cc

Vitamin E under skin 4 cc

Banimine in vein 3 cc

vitamin B in muscle 3 cc

1 bag fluid

that is for an adult buck so the dosage needs to be adjusted, but this will work

His last worming was when is gave him la200 4cc sq and baytril 100 3cc sq and wormer Ivomec plus then a week later I dart him with 2cc bayrtil for 4 days in a row he can be standing still and start to like hyproventolate ?

like he just ran a 100yd race mouth open I noticed my baytril is exp on april 2008 do you think that med is no good anylonger

Lonestar, if you can get ahold of him, I would use either Nueflor or Excede. They are made for pnuemonia and I have had very good luck with both. Make sure to follow the label. The neck and bottom of the ear is best place for injection. Draxxin and Baytril will help but may not take care of his problem. Also, some Banamine will help.

Where are you located and when was the worming before this last time.

I was trying to decide pnuemonia or lung worms Ect...Is he eating and drinking...I agree with Kurt and Arrowhead I would Banamine and get him fluids so he doesn't dehydrate...But if you hadn't worm regular it could be lung worms instead you need to look at all involved...did it happen all of a sudden...did anything chane like what pen he's in ect...was he stressed before it came on...You need to take everything into consideration cause the sytoms can be the same for many things. That will decide how you treat...Poly Serum never hurts either.

We are in Southeast Texas on the Louisania Texas Border not far form Gulf of Mexico He has lost weight He is eaten grass and some feed One minute he look ok and the next seams light he is gasping for breath

If you want email me and we can try and talk through what could be going on...I have free long distance if you want to email your number to me and a good time to call.

robert this is what this forumn is for other peoples opion's ( opinion's). That is why I read this is to see what people that raise the deer have to say,

We have a doe that did this same thing last year (could not take a deep breath, panting) our vet suggested (VELIBURON SYRUPE) sp? we put it over her feed and once she ate the feed it not take long breathing to regulate.

it opened up her airway and along with draxion to clear the infection in her

lungs. we treated her this way for about a week and she recovered fine.

My vet said they use this treament on horses (race horses) and you are not

to far from the tracks ..

Most "honest" vets will admit they know little to nothing about deer. I work with a 60-70 year old large animal vet who probably knows as much as most and will admit that.

We're constently bouncing things off each other, he would tell use to use Draxin

Robert, I agree with H&M completely. I am the same way. When something is wrong I would rather communicate with 15 different deer farmers that are around deer everyday vs a vet that just read books throughout school about what to do. I have had bad luck with vets around my area. I am alot better off hearing from all the other farmers and hearing other real life experiecnces. Even if you hear several different opinions you still get a better idea of majority rules and thats a smarter route to go than only hearing from one vet. I had a question on my doe with a hurt knee. The majority of the replies said drain it and a shot of Draxxin. Vet did not say that, but actual deer farmers that can relate to the same experiences are who Im going to take information from. I think this sight is a great place for people to learn from others experiences and mistakes. Just my opinion.

Well the fawn seams to be doin alot better I think he is going to make it

Thanks for all the advise
