Hi, I have a fawn 8 weeks old about thursday I noticed him walking a little funny kinda like he was stiff in his rear or stomach was hurting maybe. I took him up to the vet did blood work and x-ray to see if he maybe swallowed something and had something lodged nothing there and no sign of any gas any where and was full of pellets so his stool is fine. His blood work showed a high white blood cell count. The vet said he had an infection and was a little dehydrated so we gave him some draxxin 1/2 cc friday and some fluids and again monday gave him fluids and about 1/2 cc draxxin. Sunday he had a hard time getting up had to rock a few times before he could get up once up it took him a little bit to get his balance. Monday evening he couldnt get up on his own would try but if I stand him up he will walk still a little stiff looking when he does. He is at the vet this morning the vet thinks maybe he could have spinal cord injury was going to try some steroids. My concern now is from what you heard do you think theres any way he is eating from the mother because I would think if he wasnt he would be dead by now from dehydration since it is so hot here. One thing thats weird he looks totally fine weight wise and is alert and seems in good health except he cant get up on his own. Has anyone ever had anything like this before this is new to me been raising deer for almost 10 years now and thought I had seen it all I was wrong. Sorry this was so long but wanted to give all the details. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Brad

Just talked to the vet they said his white blood cell count doubled since friday so draxxin did nothing going to try something else. Giving him a bag of fluids now his temperature is pretty much normal. This is so weird I just feel helpless I think it would be better if he was just run down and not looking good at all then at least I would know what the right thing to do for him would be.

It could be white muscle , do a search for white muscle here and look at those post, hope this helps.

Monday he had a fever of 104+ gave some exceed and banimine and fluids. Monday evening fever was at 103.4 and now it is back at 101.5 and staying steady. He will eat and drink if you put it in front of him but he just can't get up at all you try to make him stand his front feet just knuckle over. I looked at the white muscle disease but it doesn't say anything about having a fever or infection like he has with the high white blood cell count. Has anyone every had anything like this I hate to just put him down the little guy is fighting hard tries to get up all the time and is alert and eating. I would be glad to try some suggestions on this even if your not a 100% sure I have no other options at this point. Thanks
