Who are your eyes on in 2009? What bucks are you watching and for what reason? This is a 2 part question and answer so let's see what everyone is watching for and for what reasons.

I will start.

In no particular order:

Sudden Impact

I truly think if this deer can avoid neck injury and possible infection in the velvet, this deer may well break 500". I don't care how you feel about non-typicals vs typicals that would be a huge accomplishment for the industry. And how fitting that it would take place on one of the best farms in the country.

All the Rolex yearlings of last year.

Rolls Royce, T-Rex, TomEX, X-Factor, Rigid. These would be my favorites. Can any of these make the next jump without becoming to trashy?

Now we wait to see what Rolex daughters will do.

Shadow

We unfortunately won't get to see what Shadow will look like this year. I think that buck would have fixed that injured side and would have been huge. Instead we wait for his sons now. And from what I hear there are a couple of really big buttons already growing. I predict Shadow sons will be monsters in the next couple of years.

Legacy and Maxbo Ebenezer.

These two bucks along with Rolls Royce at the Walk farm have long tines on a good frame. Now let's see if everything stretches out for even longer tines and a bigger frame.

Nobel

He has a great look which is not news to anyone. But this year we should start to see some sons to see if he can throw it to the next generation. My understanding is he wasn't used in his younger years for breeding.

King James

A great looking yearling buck from a great looking sire. King James has the frame most of us want. Long tines, width, and sweeping beams. Now let's see what he does with it this year.

Ridgeline

I think this is one of the best bred Patrick line bucks in the country. Last summer he showed that like his father he can pass the bone on to his sons. The very few yearlings he had were off to a really good start. I am hoping there will be more yearlings to see this year. I am afraid this is one of those bucks that is being over looked and by the time people catch on it will be too late.

Tonto

Another buck with Patrick in it is Tonto. Like Avalanche Tonto is passing it on to the kids. Last years 2 year olds looked super on the Pierce farm. I look forward to seeing if Matrix can rebound at 4, and what bucks like Lakota and Outcross will do at 3.

WRW Rex

This Highroller son last year had a look that just made you stop in your tracks. Out of a Jack the Ripper doe he carries the ability to pack on the bone. And somehow he put it all together for a super look. This year he will turn 4. What kind of jump could we see from 3 to 4 years old?

Rancher

A buck from a little known farmer in MI has a fantastic look at 2 years old. Scoring 236" and sporting what looks like a 6x6 mainframe with looong tines. Here is another buck worth watching.

Grizzly

Amazing at 1, even better at 2. At this point I don't care what he does at 3 as long as he is as big. Now it is his sons we all watch for. Being a big boy at 1 he was no doubt used a fair amount as a yearling. I am truly excited to see his yearling sons this Sept. Lots of tines mostly going up. And long tines at that. Super mass for a young buck. And don't over look that pedigree, it is all there and will fit with just about any bloodline.

Maximus DT

Another buck we won't see grow out this year. But his sons have already shown they have what it takes to grow big. I will be watching for more sons this summer. I really screwed up when I didn't use some more of the semen last fall:(

Maxbo Hardcore

A huge frame and a great pedigree top and bottom. Sharing the same mother as Maximus DT, CR, Solidcore, Encore, and Mastbo, I think that little Flees doe has proven that passdown isn't just a catchy phrase. I don't know what yearling sons he might have coming up this year, but I am excited to see what any he has might look like.

The next buck might not be on your list but he surly is on mine.

Updraft

Son of Big Guy and a deeply bred Flees doe, his pedigree is second to none in the industry. He carried over 39" of mass, and had long beams. He had what I think was a great look for a yearling buck. We gave him a couple of does and he backed up some of the a/i does. I really wouldn't be too sad if some of the a/i didn't work:)

I look forward to seeing everyone else's list.

I guess I`ll try this.

Sudden Impact

This is not my type of deer but it is none the less a truly amazing animal. My money is on him to break 500". I agree Roger, if this happens it would be fiitting for it to be on the Flees farm.

Noble

I have always like this buck and I want to use him this year. It will interesting to see how his sons look now that he is beeing used more.

RDM Golden Bucky Boy

237" at 3. Not monster inches by todays standards but there is not much extra there and this buck is one of those that blew me away when I saw him. How will he look at 4 ?

and will he maintain his good typical frame. Can he produce? He is my favorite Bucky son right now. I`ll probably cacth some static for that..........

I`ll lump the next 3 together

RPM

Lethal Weapon

Mo Thunder

I love deer that look like these three bucks. All are mature already but I am watching to see how they produce and will big typicals like this become more popular and in demand in our industry. We hear all the time that the industy is headed back that way.Only time will tell and so will the prices that deer like this should bring.

Here are some that I'm watching.

Out of Bounds

Will he bounce back from major damage? I think he will, but will it affect his look.

Prairie Blaze

How crazy will his drops get this year? Having nearly perfect drops that started to spider out of the bottom, how long will they get this year? This buck is overall very well balanced.

Auggie sons

Last year there were some very nice framed yearling sons out of Auggie. I believe we will see some BIG two year olds.

Mo Thunder

Great look. Will he get better without getting trashy?

Greg, as for Lethal Weapon, he has had that look for several years now. I wouldn't expect to see much change in him.

I just always like to watch two year olds grow. Some are big at one, and I want to see them get bigger. Then some really come on at two. Their are always questions answered when two year olds grow.

GCW Razor!! Come on guys I want to see the super stars grow well, but right now I hope my first 2 year old hits 200 clean. Don't you all agree.

Just like matt said my eyes will be on my 3 yr old. This is my very first buck and I would love to see him break 200" He was 160" last year. His father and grandfather were both over 200 at 3 yr. I also have a yearling out of a 180" 2 yr. All my genetics are typical thats why my scores are going to be much lower than alot of you. But im pumped.:D

+1 IndependenceRanch

The only thing I would add is to watch the MartyGraw sons age 1-4. I hope to see the continued pass down of the typical traits continue. Pretty Boy Floyd is the main one I would like to see grow healthy this year. I do not know were else he can go. 8 X 8?

As for the rest I would have to copy and past the first post.

Pretty Boy Floyd is a great looking deer and yes I wait to see what he does this year also. Just that my list was getting long and I needed to stop someplace:)

-------------------

I understand everyone wants to see how their own bucks grow out. Heck I even included Updraft in my list. But I was curious what bucks and for what reasons other people are interested in.

I can't wait to see what Gold Bucky Boy does at 4. That deer has ahuge frame on him and he is some what typical. He looks even bigger out of velvet. I just saw him at PADEFA auction definatly using him next fall in ai program.

Virgil, I have a buck and doe out of Gold Bucky Boy. The buck is growing his first rack this year and is looking good so far. I agree that GBB is one to look for this year. He has a great look and pedigree to do some big things.

We'll I'm partial but I can't wait to see Highway10. He is only three and his pedigree does not mature until later. If he jumps like the bucks in his pedigree from 3-4, lookout, he will be huge!. Lethal Weapon should make another jump. He is in really good shape. Timberjack has some real growth already! Again at 3 he was so far ahead of his sire and dam sire that he should really put on some growth. His 4 year old rack was damaged but 22 inside. I hope he goes back to wide like he was as a yearling. Hardwood, Chance and TimBucky should be fun to watch with a lot of points. 6 shooter is only 3. I hope he gets bigger AND stays typical. The coming yearlings will be cool... A few Highway10 and the TJ/Martygraw crosses. And of course the 2 yearlings RolexBy10 and Extreme Sneakers. And I want to watch 44 mag and Waldo. Those oldtimers could make a jump! I guess I'm saying that the bucks I have my eyes on are the ones we see everyday! Of course the one I don't get to see everyday and really want to keep my eyes on is Maxbo 727. It will be interesting to see what he does at 2...and Sudden Impact at 3.....CWD strikes again (Can't Wait for Antlers Disease). Good luck to everyone in the thier antler growth. Take good care of them! Post pictures when they start looking good. Eight pointers are always welcome! - Sam

Sam, PJ is of to a good start. Real massive, and a couple inches past G-1's. We will see if he stays a 8 point, or puts on more. I have a couple of yearlings out of him that are getting big fast.???????
