Mike, or no preserves that are qualified to buy them if they could.

Right.. The only way is either nobody has it or everybody has it. The best part is that like the state of Wisconsin is not hardly testing any longer and for good reason. Its doing nothing to the population as shown by them killing record numbers and they had a few counties top the p&y record book for 2012.

Wisconsin is still testing at numbers higher than another other state than I am aware of so not sure where the statement came that Wisconsin is not hardly testing.

The Wis. DNR found CWD in the wild in 3 new counties this year which affects numerous deer and elk farmers located in those counties...these producers are no longer able to ship animals to most states unless they are double fenced.

As for testing numbers in our herds, breeders are forced to continue testing at 100% and the hunting ranches have finally received some relief. We have gone from testing 100% in the hunting ranches down to 50% which is still higher than the majority of the states out there.

The only states that have not yet found CWD are the states that are simply not testing enough animals to find the disease. It is there and only a matter of time before it is found...unless you live in a state like Florida and just don't test for CWD.

Yes WI still tests WAY more than any other state does. Testing in most other states in the wild is a joke. At the percentages most states test they will be very unlikely to find it. That said CWD it's self is a JOKE. Talk about much to do about nothing! Lets see, WI is over 13 years into this now. "Experts" said if CWD wasn't eliminated in the wild within 20 years whitetails would be extinct in the state. LOL yea right!

Deer collisions on America’s roads are up. State Farm Insurance says it saw a 21% increase from five years ago, and Iowa ranks second for total deer-vehicle collisions. State Farm predicts 1 of every 67 drivers in Iowa, second only to West Virginia, will hit a deer within the next year at an average cost of $3,100. The Washington County Public Safety Center says drivers should always report a deer collision for public safety and insurance purposes. The Iowa DOT says 3,490 drivers reported deer-vehicle collisions in 2009, causing nine motorist deaths and an estimated 383 injuries. Since 2001, 68 people have died in Iowa as a result of motor vehicle crashes involving animals.

Interesting if deer numbers are way down, it doesn't seem to be showing up in insurance claims.

I guess i should have said testing alot less...Lets do the math!

The leaders at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources simply follow the ideological agenda of its hunter clientele. Since killing deer is the primary attraction for hunters, the department does not want to threaten the deer hunt. But they are doing just that. Testing for chronic wasting disease has been drastically reduced as CWD rates in our state rise. In 2002, just after CWD was recognized here, 40,000 deer were tested and the rate of infection was 0.51 precent. In 2012, 5.13 percent of 6,611 deer tested showed infection — a 10-fold increase in 10 years. Quote

what was the issues in North Dakota the required 200K to be spent?

How many farmers are in ND?

How many farmers are in Iowa?

Before I renew my membership I have to ask myself why is Nadefa not providing assistance to this fight if they provided 200K to another state.

Jerilee,

According to the membership map on page 113 of the last NADEFA directory, North Dakota has 6 NADEFA members and Iowa has 42 NADEFA members.

thanks gary

the real question is #of farmers not nadefa members

seems like there are not many members vs the number of farmers.

Jerilee,

There are others who support our position of government overreach and whom believe that activist groups are interfering with many aspects of farming with their activist agendas. Our industry is included:
