I love you guys. Virgil is right about not trusting any man. Jesus said only God is good. I know we all examine ourselves daily and ask God to send us thru that purifying fire. One thing about posting short comments is you always wish you said nothing or said much more. We wrestle against powers and principalities. Much debate can be staged on how scriptures relate to civil government. The main reason it's so hard to understand is most Christian's believe that Jesus removed old testament laws and we are in NEW Covenant. We are, by the way, in New Covenant. Jesus said he came not to change one jot or till of the law but to fulfill it. Compare this "jot or till" to our alphabet. It's like saying "not a single letter" because jots and tills are added to Hebrew script to make words much like our vowels. The ten commandments are in America's law today. Sacrificial elements of the Rabbitical laws and customs and traditions with-in the temple were replaced by Jesus. All of this is pointless debate with us if you don't believe America is a Christian nation. That's not what George Washington thought. If we agree that America IS a Christian nation and founded on Christian values and morals (I am not EVEN going to explain whose principles were copied) then let's go back to "powers and principalities". Romans 13:3-4 is saying that civic leaders are susposed to be "ministers of God". Paul is teaching about "powers" such as leaders, magistrates, etc. as goes on to say these are subject even to God.. Paul is telling us to abide by the powers so long as they are not evil. Pauls says to live peaceably with your neighbors IF possible. Remembering that Jesus "came not to change the law"....civic laws are laid out in Exodus, Leviticus, Deueronomy and other places in scripture. It is a serious mistake to equate a civilized society (Christian or not..if there are any) with one in which the decent people are door mats for the evil to trample on. Our Supreme Court ruled (Bowers vs. DeVito) that "there is no constitutional right to be protected by the State against being murdered"! Yet as Christians we don't have that right to give our lives to anyone but God. Do we have a "right" therefore to defend our lives against anyone but God? In Nehemiah ("Comforted by Y-H-V-H-) 4:14 ..."remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethern, your sons, and your daughters, your wives and your houses". Let's slow down. The fight that was taking place with Nehemiah, at greater lenght, was against those who would come against God's people. Those that would come against God's people. Those that would come against God's people. Not too long ago in Indonesia (Islam based country) Muslims killed several missionaries planning on building a Christian church. Powers and principalities. Islamic law is called sharia. It forbids Christians from building a new church or repairing old churches on Islamic land. Proverbs 25: 26 "it is unseemly for a rightous man to fall before an unrightous man". I've got to go...wife wants to go to farm. Psalm 144:1 "Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight". Jesus, Luke 22:36 "he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his script: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one". Not to fight for the things of this world, I say, but against the powers and principalities of darkness.
