lumpy jaw

Well to be honest i am hesitant to even offer my opinion. The last time i did i was told i was doing it all wrong but i saved a very expensive life....Anyway.When i had the problem i hit her with 3cc draxin and the lump went away for about 2 weeks then came back bigger. I put her down and stuck a needle in the lump to see if it was infected and it sure was. drained 30cc of puss and flushed the lump with plain penicillen. Was good for a week or so then filled up and burst. I could see her teeth and there was a hole in her jaw bone. I treated her every week for 5 weeks with 12cc of nuflor...6sq and 6IM..Also cleaned the wound with blue coat and such..This girl was in a bad way and i am happy to say she just had a live date with romeo last week. Sometimes they can get stuck with a sharp piece of alpalpa or a thistle or such and get a small infection in the area hence the lump. Be sure to keep an eye on her as if this is what i had it will eat the jaw bone and will kill her. If i can help with an question feel free to call.. Good Luck.

Well Mike I hear you.....I hate to give any opions on here but...I just can't help myself.......I hate to say it but I have had lumps on the jaw and have treated them in the the past and put them through a bunch of stress by putting them down......then I found that usually with the lump in the side If not impaction that left alone it will go away on it's own and you will never know the deer ever had the lump........sometimes I think we medicate the deer too often when they have the god given immune system to take care of a lot of the problems on their own.......yeah I know saying this will. Ruffle a lot od feathers but I do believe it to be true.......you need to be on top of things with your deers health without a doubt.....just don't over mediicate every time you feel their is a problem.....just my opinion.........

No doubt and for white oak's sake and the deer's i hope she does not have what my doe had. That is some nasty a$$ stuff to be able to eat bone and leave a hole!!! I wish them the best of luck!!!

Pics will help too. Xray if concerned with bone. if not in bone- tetradure at 5cc per 100 lbs im. If in bone- 10cc sodium iodide iv per 100 lbs and retreat in 2 weeks(penetrates bone great). Prognosis is good when caught early. God bless and good luck!

If a pocket is discovered, surgical intervention to close defect is critical
