One word... UNREAL!!! We took a trip down to Mark's farm tonight to see Free Agent in person. I almost felt bad not paying much attention to a 200+" Maxbo yearling, several Sudden Impact yearlings with awesome frames, and the numerous other mature bucks that will almost certainly go over 300" this year. My head was on a swivel for most of the trip, except when looking at Free Agent. To say that he is an amazing yearling is a serious understatement! I'd say that he's very close to, if not over 300" already. I just did a quick count and he has around 60 points right now.

Congratulations to Mark for putting an amazing yearling on the ground!

congrats mark, that deer is unbelievable. You were the first to grow a 200 inch yearling and looks like you showed up to take your record back. I am not sure that he isn't going to be 300+ ... Thanks for the multiple photos mike ...

Is he related to goliath at all because both pics look like him during his last year expectally the last one it looks just like one of the ones that was in the article when he was stolen. Great buck!

I heard that he is out of Mark's three year old sire Kingpin (Thicket/HighRoller) and a young doe that is a Doc grand-daughter. That Doc grand-daughter I was told goes back to Reno's dam and a brother to Doc that I heard of a few years but never seen a picture of. I am sure that someone else will clarify this. I just wanted to post this so people wouldn't start saying that he is not a yearling. Another example of why it pays off to breed yearlings. JOE

SWEET!!!! Is he out of Kingpin for sure, does anyone know. Great buck Mark! Anyone got a pic of the 200" Maxbo yearling?

Joe C

I agree with you on who you said is the sire and the dam because that is just what I had heard it was.?

Holly - Here's a picture of the Maxbo yearling... it's not the best quality, but it certainly gives you an idea of how big he is.

To answer some of the other questions...

Free Agent is not out of Maxbo XL, but Mark does have a really nice Maxbo XL yearling... sorry I don't have pictures.

Mark is about 99% sure that Free Agent is out of Kingpin, and the other 1% chance would be Sudden Impact.

The price for Free Agent semen will be set in the next month or so.

Hope this helps.

The way Reno's dam-side came to be was one heck of a story resulting from a doe fawn born in February. The dam-side on this buck is a story about how something tragic was turned into something positive. In this buck you can see the crazy amount of points at the bases like Thicket, the multiple brows and long main tines coming off the beam with LONG flyers like HighRoller and many bucks out of Sundance, and the very heavy drops coming off the beams at the end like Doc did from age 2 on and there you have it. IT IS WHAT IT IS. The fact that you have a Doc brother and Reno's dam added to this deers' pedigree is just icing on the cake. Just look at Mark's 2 yr. old buck Frankenstein out of Doc and Reno's dam last year and you will see he has more stacked points than most of Doc's other sons. If you also notice that Free Agent has more points on his right side and look at Kingpin as a yearling and he had more points on his left. I have been breeding deer long enough to see bucks that look like their sires', but are actually a mirror image of their sire. This is what makes breeding challenging, diappointing at times, and rewarding when things come together. Hats off to Mark for hitting the lottery. Oop's, somebody might take that name now for the next big yearling. JOE

I want to know why the buck is so wild. Michael, couldn't you get any closer to take a pic?:)

I was at Mark's place a few years ago for a day visit. It was a nice time and Mark was very nice to hang with for the day. Good people.

Wow! Thanks for posting that Maxbo son Michael, he is nice too. I knew Mark told David that he was almost positive he was out of Kingpin. Whoever he is out of, he is HUGE!

There is no doubt Mark Sipes has been consistantly producing BIG deer for a LONG time! Great job Mark!

Sure thing Holly. He's a very serious looking yearling... heck, he'd be a very serious 2 year old to be honest!

Roger - Free Agent and his pen mates are all very calm and laid back (obviously)... makes it great for getting pictures, but as you could see from the video I actually had to back up a little to get him in the frame.

Yes, I saw that in the video that he was like trying to give you a big old kiss!:p:p:p

I like having bucks like that. It is so easy to see if there is ever anything maybe wrong with them. Like infection or whatever. A calm herd is the best, and Mark has that.

Mark, Congrats on a great yearling. I can't wait to come out there this fall. If he does DNA to Kingpin then our doe fawns out of Kingpin and the Doc/Reno doe will be a grand slam..... Thanks for the oppurtunity to purchase some of your genetics. We hope they do as well for us as they have done for you.

Awesome deer Mark but I'm not all that surprised...after all wasn't it Mark who had the first 200" yearling, now perhaps he will have the first 300" yearling?? Genetics do tell the story!:)

Has anybody noticed that a doe fawn born in 2008 was sold by the Flees family just last January at the Top 30? That fawn was out of Kingpin and a Flees doe you might of heard about named Kristie. Kristie is the dam to Champ, the grand-dam to PJ, and the great grand-dam to Sudden Impact. How big of a steal was this at auction when so many might not have paid much attention to it since Kingpin was damaged at 2. Looks like somebody got a pretty good deal to me. JOE

Joe, you are so right. I saw that deer and wanted that deer and it went cheap enough. But, well, you know how not having a job can affect ones ability to buy things. Bad enough all the money I did spend:eek:

What a great looking buck. I notice he had a spot of blood on his right side,I had a buck last year that looked that way with a little nick on his tine. About a week later the flys got to him then the maggots set in, had to cut the anter off. Saved the buck but he was sick for a couple weeks. Hope you keep an eye on that sore. Hate to loose a good looking buck or get sick. Just my two cents.
