maybe ready to release??

My Jeffrey is 14 weeks old and eats grains, grasses, twigs and a bottle twice a day (more of less for good messure..) I am thinking that I might let him out of the pen he is in into a very large area but is much less save. The main reason is that we have been getting a lot of thunderstorms lately and he cant get any other shelter than what we have put up, plus I really think he needs to run.

What do you guys think? I know it is a little early but... most of my land is flat for about 3 acres then it is woods and there are some does with other fawns in the area.

This is all new to me and I am starting to make me question how long do I have to keep him penned up?

I don't know about wv laws but in pa it is very illegal to release captive deer. Maybe I'm reading this wrong but I don't recommend it

He is old enough fo you to...cut the cord... you saved him this long. Maybe not right law wise but what is done, is done. Let him go and hook up with those does and fawns and hope for the best. It would be perfect if you could let him out when the other deer are out in your field. They see each other and off they go!! Good Luck!

Thank you sooo much for the encouraging words. I really needed to hear them. I also hope that I didnt save the little guy for nothing. God willing he will hook up with the other doe and her fawns who look about the same size.

He will adapt and blend right in with the wild deer just fine at this point. That BS of people saying that a bottle fed will not survive in the wild is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The biggest predator is a hunting person, period. They have the natural survival instinct bred into them.

thank you... he seems to be doing well. He ran from my neighbor (who he didnt know) and is gaining some weight. I hope your right about the instincts. Time will tell.
