I just found out about a new program today that will pay for any losses that a producer may have had due to EHD since October 2011.  I am not sure exactly what the payment rate will be, looks to not be a huge amount but could be up to $500/head.  Message me if you have any questions and I can tell you what I know.

From what I read it was approved April 14th. My husband received an email July 22 from nadefa and then again 2 days ago. The deadline is tomorrow. It is under the elap program . Go to your county usda office. It's a travesty that many people will lose out on this because they didn't know about it. We lost 22 animals that totaled to about 80,000 worth of animals and will receive a shade over $12,000. Better than a kick in the nuts. It is $561/animal .

The sign up deadline has been extended for 2 additional weeks.  This is in Missouri and I would assume all states.

BMAYES...you are correct.  It has been extended until mid-August.  Contact your local county Farm Service Agency office to get signed up.  It is a nation wide program.  I work for the Farm Service Agency and just found out about the EHD side of it.  There is also other programs that will pay out if you were or are in a severe drought region.  This program is called LFP or Livestock Forage Program and does include deer.  Another very significant program that will pay out is called LIP or Livestock Indemnity Program and also is for all livestock including deer and elk.  It is designed for animals that died from severe weather conditions since 2011.   encourage anyone who had any losses to get in touch with the USDA.  Grain farmers have been getting assistance for many years, I am glad they finally are recognizing the livestock farmers.

It covers Years 2012 & 2013 Losses!..................I have to Agree the word was ..............MORE than alittle slowwww in getting out!

I have talked to a BUNCH of Folks who didn't know.............Sqaut about any help being available!

With Today's "Social" Media outlets that most folks have available.................This SHOULD NOT be the case?

I lost a few deer to EHD last year and year before. But how do you prove that they died from EHD?

Do you have to prove it somehow ?

Wayne I'm on whitetails unlimited on facebook and nothing was said there either.

Cassie, I went in gave them a death report of losses from sept to oct and had a couple that lingered and died in Jan with complications from it.  I did not have to have any real confirmation.  They also wanted total losses for the year.  I assume they will do a little homework to assess the disease.  Of course if you have laboratory confirmation would be good too.

It also includes after Oct 1 of 2011!!!! not just 2012,2013

sad thing is I am sure there are probably a lot of people out of the business or got put out by EHD and they will not ever know anything about this!!!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know there is also an additional similar assistance program for pasture loss from the drought in 2012. Contact your county extension office. The deadline is in September to file. It pays around $17-20 per deer or cow etc. alive on your property in 2012. Check and see if your area is eligible. Most of the Midwest is included.

I talked to my extension guy yesterday and he said it still had to be approved by the office above him.  He told me by the end of the month when I asked when I filed.

Also did you know you could get money from the 2012 drought?  you have another month or so to file for that.  I think it is something like $20/head.  We had to feed forage all summer that year.  He told me that you have to register your farm in the pasture program which you can still do and get the money for 2012

There are 3 programs i believe we can file/ ELAP LIP and possibly LFP. I have been speaking with our locas FSA office. there is also a program  for assistance for fencing i am checking into. ELAP is also for 2014 which the caledar yr started 10/01/2013 and must be filed by Nov 2014. Call your local FSA offices guys. there's help out there

Rick

Is the LFP the 2012 program for pasture loss because of the drought? My neighbor has already gotten paid for that. The deadline to file for that is in September. He got a deposit of around $20 for each of his animals on the farm that year.
