New program to pay for EHD losses

My local FSA finally called back and said for us to come in and fill out the application for the EQIP program so it's a start. There are many different reasons they can justify assisting with fence. Fencing in a pasture to allow movement of animals to let fields recover. He also stated the can assist with covered areas, concrete and gravel if your animals are in mud in the winter. I'll keep everyone posted on this as changes develope. As of right now this is looking to be better than the EHD refunds. They are wanting a letter explaining our EHD loss whatever that means
 
I talked my agent  yesterday on the EHD loss.  I had only tested one, the first animal of 22 lost.  By the time the results came back the storm was over, it took about 3-4 weeks.  He asked if I had confirmation on any of the others.  I told him I would get together treatment and signs that they had.  The program will not be very good if all we get paid for are ones that were confirmed by the lab.  I tried to explain to him that once you have one confirmed  you can assume the rest of the storm was EHD.
 
My FSA guy told me that the payment is going to depend on how many deer are actually claimed on how it will be paid out, example $2,000,000 available and 5,000 claims would pay out $400 per deer. Double the claims and the payment would be half that. These are just example numbers but maybe this is why some people didn't want the word to get out about the program.
 
we're kinda getting the run around on the ELAP for ehd, They are asking for a letter explaining our loss??? i'm not very hopeful on this assistance. We didn't have any tested. It was pretty obvious from the signs and symptoms. and talking to you all of course :)
 
Has anyone received a payment from the elap program yet? I was told my application was approved but not when the payment would be or how much per head?

they had told me in August I would get paid around the end of August


when I talked to him last week said that there was some sort of meeting the were having about it this week and that payments would likely be reduce from the 500/head

I applied for this and received Payment last week


 


I have heard the EHD Loss program.............ELAP is being "Re-Calculated" because of all the Claims and won't be issued till possibly sometime in November!


 


Anyone hear anything different?

Anyone receive payment yet? I was told it would be payed in October then told November now told they aren't sure.




Heard the same thing here Randy!....................But if YOU owed them money!.........................They would DAMN sure tell YOU when you needed to have it to THEM!
 
My FSA agent called last Wed and said they were reviewing our case Thursday. She called back Friday and said we were approved for reimbursement but didn't know how much it would be. I was pleasantly surprised by her communication with us honestly. I believe ALL cases need reviewed and approved before any payment is made. The way i see it in my meek little mind is they have X amount of dollars. The amount we receive is dependent on how many cases X will be divided by. I am not expecting payment until the beginning of the yr. Again that's just my thinking


 


And still no word on the EQIP program
 
Last week they told me most cases is being reworked , there was only 20 million to go around,  they have to recalculate, this is all i have heard, but maybe payments are starting to come in now.
 
20 mil / $374 = 53,476 dead deer from EHD in one yr. IF this is how they figure payout. Seems like an awful high number. and IF there are no hands in the cookie jar.
 
This program was for all livestock not just deer.  The cattle farmers got a bunch of the 2013 money due to the major blizzard in the Dakota's.
