In case you aren't a member of NADeFA - this is important. If they are successful they will be coming to your state next.

Many of you will remember that the producers in my home state of North Dakota are in a battle to save their high fence hunting industry. Our opposition was successful this year in collecting enough signatures to allow for a ballot measure, just like in Montana, to try and shut down the hunt ranch industry. Steve Porter will be visiting five schools and communities in North Dakota this week. Besides educating our youth and teachers, Steve has been answering a lot of question from the media on "Measure #2". He has done an excellent job of educating them, so I am hopeful our industry will be looked at in a better light as the political editorials start heating up before the election on November 2nd. He is visiting some key parts of the state, so I am hoping that when the students go home and tell their parents of the exciting day they had at school and the positives of the deer industry, that will stick in the back of their minds when they go to the polls on November 2nd.

The election on November 2nd is significant for the whole industry not just North Dakota. If they can be successful in a state that still has a strong rural influence on the ballot box, then they shouldn't have a problem in more urban states. If they are successful in enough states then a Bill on the Federal level could follow, which would shut down the entire hunt ranch industry. Our goal is not only to win but to win by a super majority to send a message across this country that our industry has the public's support. The proposed budget for this campaign is $150,000 and that doesn't even include any television time as we could not afford the rates. The radio buy for the last three weeks going into the election cost $70,000, the rest of the budget goes to paid newspaper advertisement, yard/rural signs, billboards in the major cities and along the interstate, website and advertising on ND internet hunting forums. The game farm industry is small in North Dakota, but we have been getting support from other state and national industry associations. To reach our goal in North Dakota we could use individual support from all of North America. If you would like to make a personal contribution, please send whatever you can afford to Citizens to Protect ND Property Rights, PO Box 302, Turtle Lake, North Dakota 58575 (please make checks payable to Citizens to Protect ND Property Rights or CPNDPR). If you would like to charge your contribution on a credit card, please contact me directly for details.

Always on the defense aren't we? Hmm Hmm. It sure is getting old.

But yet we can't get organized. PETA has got to love seeing us argue between ourselves and drag our feet to join forces on various topics.

You can bet these groups will continue to attack our industry any time they think they see a weak spot - or state. If we aren't allowed to do business, not a whole lot of other things matter then -being allowed to stay in business is priority #1.

I hope everyone votes in the upcoming election and knows what their candidates stand for. Are they for individual freedoms, the rights of property owners, less government intrusion???? Know your candidates and VOTE.

Gary and Jane, you guys started this thread an hour after I started another thread. This thread is called, "North Dakota" and tells folks right away without looking what the topic could be about. You have gotten 156 views as of this moment. My thread had a more vague title so folks needed to actually click on to it to see what it was about. It has 256 views as of now. 100 more views during almost the exact same time frame.

My point is folks simply don't care unless it directly concerns them and since few deer growers are from North Dakota the number of views reflects how much people care.

That is the very reason the left wingers will win eventually win and our industry along with ALL hunting will eventually be done away with.

Oh my what did he just say??? Yep, that's what I said and I truly believe it to be true. People would rather sit on their hands and do jack crap nothing instead of stand up and fight for their rights.

Everyone should stand up and have a voice. VOTE. Ask candidates what their positions are. And then make them stay strong when faced with the left wing bleeding hearts who are hell bent on taking away all our rights.

I ask, where is the outrage???

When these critics of our industry were attacking the Montana deer and elk industry there were negative articles in the news every day. These articles were placed by RMEF and Montana Wildlife Federation and Montana Bow Hunters. The most negative articles were generated by our Montana Fish and game who is our regulatory agency and I believe they gave all the negative information to the other critics. In my opinion they were the ones who wrote the initiative for the public to vote on.

The most interesting thing is now that they have won in Montana and all the bragging was done about their win there has not been one negative article on any news level. Like Roger said critics have all there ducks in order and don't have a problem banding together for a common goal. PETA, bow hunters, RMEF, MWF were together against the industry. The same can't be said about the deer and elk industry. We would rather fight among ourselves and not even accept there is a problem in our industry and most would rather do Jack crap. I can't believe you said that Roger. LOL

Guys get out and protect our private property rights and the industry we all love. If you don't get involved we will all lose these rights to pursue our happiness. YOU WILL HAVE A HOBBY LIKE ME if you don't get involved. The other guy can't do it all for us.

The problem is people need to really believe there is a PROBLEM before they act on it and a lotof times it is too late. We have a chance to be proactive and we are not taking advantage of it. Someone is going to have to speer head the drive......they are going to have to step up and take the lead (And that is not going to be an easy task and will take lots of time and effort). Until something like this happens we will unfortunately just sit in limbo till the SKY DOES START FALLING and it will be too late. But at the very least the petition is a step in the right direction and it is like pulling teeth just trying to get people signed up on that thing. Lets stop fighting and start uniteing!!!!

Thanks Gary and Jane for posting Shawn Schafers request for financial help to support Citizens to protect ND property rights. Apple Creek Whitetails will match the first 25 deer farms to donate $100. This could give extra $5,000 to program. Just post your intention to mail check and lets unite to help Shawn support property rights.

Scott

Scott,

Can whitetail exchange take care of the donations?

Tell me where and I will paypal or cc the $100.

I just hope that it helps.

Browning Whitetails will send 100.00 to NADEFA in support of North Dakota

Generally, I don't say much on here, as is exhibited by my lack of post numbers. I do read most of the posts on a daily basis to keep abreast of things. Further, I have contacted Forum members such as Andy and Jack and had very good conversations with them regarding the state of our industry and it's many issues.

Times are tough enough already, but they will get a lot worse if we do nothing to save this industry. As Roger, Jack, and Dennis stated above, we need to unite in one fashion or another to accomplish what needs to be done. From my perspective, and probably the perspective of those proposing the North Dakota Initiative, there seems to be a lot of people that do a lot of posting on this Forum that fall silent when an issue like this arises. Whether it be to fight the Initiative in North Dakota or promote high fence hunting, we can not afford to wait.

I signed Roger's petition and I believe it said that the undersigned will be willing to stand up and assist in promoting our industry, so I'll start right now by saying that Beech Ridge Whitetails in New York will send $100.00 to support our industry. Just speaking for this state, I would hope that there might be more deer farmers in New York who may see fit to show their support of the deer farming industry by signing the petition and sending a $100.00 donation.

DJD Whitetails will send $200.00 dollars to the cause.....if it where my state i surely would hope for a better response than what I see here........folks I used to think we as deer farmers were a close group and looked out for each others interests.....i know it is the way things used to be..........Scott and the Apple creek gang have stood up and made a great offer to help out oue fellow deer farmers and we can't even get enough pledges to meet his offer............we ought to be ashamed..........I'm sure there will be some that come on and say they do plenty and have donated plenty so they don't need to do anymore....thats bull crap.........stand up and fight together for a cause that has all of our best interests in mind........Beech Ridge is right.....lots of barking goes on till your actually asked to DO something for the cause and then everyone vanishes!! It's amazing how much attention a free straw of semen gets and how willing everyone is to particapate in that.........I don't have a whole lot of money to throw around.........I have yet to make a dime from the deer farming (but srely hope too).......this all beong said.......I know we need to stand up and fight or we will fall and this is where it starts folks.............it is time to put up or start your exit stradegy from the Industry we all used to love and enjoy!!!

Thank you Todd. My check is being sent through the Whitetail Exchange site. Thank you for making it easy.

A great big thank you to Chuck Pettit @ Beech Ridge Whitetails, Dr. Ray Favero, Rick Browning @ Browning Whitetails, Mike & Angie Kerry @ Four Seasons Whitetails, Dennis @ DJD Whitetails, Greg Mills @ Millsview WhitetailsMike Heiter for stepping up to the plate in support and Todd Morgan @ Whitetail Exchange for allowing the checks to filter through Whitetail Exchange. There is still room for a few more supporters and we thank you in advance. We would also appreciate any other Ranches that would like to throw their hat in with matching funds for this great programs that can only benefit all of us now and in the future. Thank all of you for your continued support!

Dear Friends:

I would like to start by thanking everyone that has stepped up and pledged to donate on this thread, as well as those that have donated on Whitetail Exchange and to Jane Nelson for thoughtfully starting this discussion.

I know that this thread has not taken off and became so long that you have forgot what it is about, but I still would encourage everyone to go back to the first post where Jane pasted the facts of what is happening in our hunt ranch industry. This is not limited to North Dakota only, if they are successful we might be shocked at how many states come under attack at their next election or how much support there might be for a Bill on the federal level which could shut down the industry across the entire nation.

I feel our chances of winning this campaign are very good, if we all pull together and show them that we are a strong and united industry! We need to win and win BIG to deter them from trying this in another state. No one ever thought Montana would pass such a measure and they received very little support. THEY LOST BY 1%!! This isn't some little league baseball game where we tell the kids they are all winners, if we don't win on November 2nd we are losing everything, there is no coming in a close second.

We have a strong campaign going but we are running short of funds. We have raised significant money here in North Dakota, but we need help from all cervid producers not to run short at the end, when advertizing matters most!

Thanks to in-state fundraising , other State and National associations and personal donations we have been able to keep up with expenses to this point, but our two most costly expenses are starting next week. Radio and Newspaper buys must be prepaid and purchased each week. These also are the most crucial means of educating the voting public to oppose Measure #2.

Whatever you can afford would be greatly appreciated. Your contribution will help get our message out to fight the HSUS and PETA campaign messages that spread lies about our industry.

Please, take a moment and send in your contribution today to Citizens to Protect ND Property Rights (CPNDPR), PO Box 302, Turtle Lake, ND 58575. Or go online to www.ndpropertyrights.com to make a contribution on our secure donation page which should be active in a couple days.

Thank you for your time, your fellow Cervid Ranchers in North Dakota appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Shawn Schafer

ATTENTION!

Please listen to the radio at 8:10 Central time, tomorrow morning October 5th, I will be on AM Radio channels 1100 FLAG Fargo, and 1270 KLXX Bismarck, North Dakota. You can listen on line at http://wzfg-am.fimc.net//Article.asp?id=1886197 I clicked on the basic player and it came on without downloading anything. The call in number is 888-598-8464. I will be on with Roger Kaseman who is leading the group trying to shut down the high fence hunting in North Dakota, so please flood the lines with our supporters.

If you are able to get through on the phone line, please remain professional and remember that the majority of the public in North Dakota support our industry because of private property rights and we want to keep the focus on our rights and the extremist trying to take them away and end all animal agriculture and all hunting.

Shawn Schafer

Todd, great idea to place that on WTE, I bought 2 $100.00 auctions and I will have the check in the mail this evening. Shawn, I was able to get through on the phone and was one of the callers today, I pray I did our industry justice and helped maybe persuade some of the listeners to vote it down.

I received an email this morning requesting that I post the associations that have kicked in to help with the fight to save the hunt ranch industry in North Dakota, so their members will know if they should contact their local Board members .

North Dakota Deer Ranchers

North Dakota Elk Growers

North American Deer Farmers Association

Exotic Wildlife Association

North American Elk Breeders Association

Pennsylvania Deer Farmers Association

North East Deer & Elk Farmers

Indiana Deer & Elk Farmers Association

Minnesota Deer Breeders Association

New York Deer & Elk Farmers Association

Texas Deer Association

I appreciate all the support we have received so far, but we still have a ways to go to protect our hunt ranch industry. North Dakota only has 17 deer farms and 80 elk farms; the elk industry has been soft and 7 of the deer farms are only smaller hobby farms, so financially North Dakota can use all the help they can get.

Thank you

Shawn Schafer
