Our Industry, 8000 Deer Farmers, Only 300 Attend Auctions

Wisdom, don't know the situation in yor area, but in my area people are still moving does to farms all over. And i know of many that of have been out of 200"+ genetics, but not "Big" name deer and are still getting some pretty fair prices for them.Simply speaking of deer in my area only.If there are problems in you'r part of the country i wish them nothing but the best in moving these deer!

That just show's you how the same bizz can vary from state to state.PA has a massive amount of deer farms thus a massive amount of deer.It would be harder in a state with so much competition to move deer, either shooters or breeders. It is different from state to state im sure i know in ny no test,no move, not even in our own state! If it's not tested it goes no where alive.

Roger,

I see what your saying and I agree I just wanted to show the other side of it and how it can work.

Also in MO. to move deer with in the state not only do you not need tb or bruc. testing but you do not need a shipping cert. either. (we only need the shipping cert. to move out of the state)

I also saw where you said it cost you over $300 for your permit each year it is only $50 per year down here and a shipping cert. to move a deer out of state only cost around $10 from the vet.

Wow it is nice that some states are operating so cheaply. I wish our permits were that cheap. Not sure how you can get a shipping cert for only $10. Doesn't the vet have to come to the farm??? I don't think my vet would get in their truck and drive out of the vet office parking lot for $10:(

But the biggest question is how the hell (yes I said that) do you have the ability to move deer even in state without a shipping cert??? No record of movement between farms? How do you all do trace backs?

Here in WI we need a permit just to change our underwear. WI farms obviously have much stricter rules we have to live by:mad:

Good luck getting that out of them. The market is so flooded with does. Take a look at whitetail exchange even doe with good bloodlinrs aren;t being sold their have been some really good doe on there and nobody is even bidding.

Virgil, If it was my post that you were saying good luck to getting that out of them, thanks but I don't work on luck. I advertise and get out to sales and other events and make contacts. I already have 2 guys interested in them at that price. One of the guys I told him he couldn't have them though. He has very small pens and needs tamer does. These girls are not bottle fed and are in a pen that is 100' by 500'. They would work in a pen say 100' by 200' but smaller than that I say no. I don't sell to people just because they want to buy from me. I try and match the deer to the buyer so they are happy in the end. I know some out there will sell anything to whoever wants to buy but I don't work that way. I like happy customers:D

And if I don't sell those 2 does no big deal. I will take them to my hunting ranch since I didn't bottle feed these 2. Or just make jerky. Mmmmm, tastes gooooood:p

P.S. These 2 girls do have some well known names in them by the way. They aren't just no name deer. I just choose not to use their bloodlines in my post as this is not an ad, nor an ad section of the forums so that would be inappropriate.

...my neighbor has 50+ open does. He can not afford to feed them and he can not sell them and He can not afford any more doe fawns from them.

Sounds like since if he can't afford the feed he needs to stop letting them breed and get his herd numbers back to a more reasonable size.

I stay small in numbers and focus on the best quality instead. If everything goes to heck in a handbag I won't have dozens and dozens of deer to try and find homes for.

Good luck to your neighbor.

Montana requirements are. If it moves in State TB & Bru. are required. Paper work is from a Vet. Mine charges $100. an hour plus certificate fee of $25.00 and don't forget his gas mileage of $15.00 If the deer dies the Vet writes out a death report. Vet collects CWD sample. Don't forget his fees apply and we pay for Lab charges. Then of coarse there is the State tax on deer of $32.00 a year on all deer you own. Every animal is on a State inventory and any transaction is required to have a Vet write up the disposition of the animal. Guess the Montana deer farmer isn't bright enough to do his own paper work. Guess that would be me as I'm the only deer farmer left. LOL

Then we also have to have the Vet out to do our yearly inventory all at the above prices. Sure adds up to a lot of money.

Just remembered I also have to have the Vet put in our State ID ear tags. Guess I'm not bright enough even to do that. Oh well it's just money and it's for a good cause. LOL

HEALTH PAPERS ARE RECOMMENDED when moving deer inside our state.... but is NOT mandatory,But a good practice for both parties involved! It just saves both parties invoved alot of hassel incase "BIG BROTHER" has any ?Down the road. It's also just a good business practice. My vet charges me a trip charge and for filling out the health paper @ a rate of $ 90. per hour but is well worth he is VERY picky and if ever a problem he wil go to bat for us in a heart beat!

Wayne, I am with you I guess. Don't really need to give them any reason to pull some sort of crap later.

Yeah Roger, I know what you mean! The main reason for me is i know a deerfarmer who had raised deer for 3+ yrs never lost a deer never sold a deer with a paper trail, first out of state sale for him he had lots of trouble.Never a paper trail anywhere and no vet trail for deaths or such. Red flag went up first time he was visable to them and couldn't believe he had never lost a deer.We know have the same vet and he just likes to stay on thier radar and keep them on ours! Sounds DUMB i know but we all know "BIG BROTHER"!!! :D
