I have a buck fawn who clearly got pneumonia. Vet clarified that for me. His actions though are puzzling me.....any help is much appreciated. He seems to just sit there in a daze.....almost as in he's in a daze or went blind. He stopped eating but I can put alfalfa in in mouth to chew and manually give him water. Some days he is breathing real good then the next his breaths are heavy and snot just pours from his nose. Also a liquid brown is coming from his mouth! Anyone had an experience with anything like this? His lack of almost seeming blind is puzzling me. Thanks

I have been giving him banamine daily for fever and pain and for 5 days now he has been on draxxin. Second dose yesterday. Has anyone had these same responses from a fawn with pneumonia? Can they go blind? Or does it just get them sick they are in a daze and just don't want to move much? Thanks.

Though I like banamine for certain things pneumonia is not one of them. Consult with your vet on the use of Dexamethasone in your treatment protocol. Additionally it sounds as if the response to the Draxxin is not working. Wayne's recommendation of the Nuflor is spot on. Vitamins and IV or sub q fluids would be warranted as well.

Best of luck.

I don't get much pneumonia in my deer.  But bighorn sheep will get it and are very hard to treat as they will usually die from pneumonia.  I have come up with a very agressive treatment program that will cure up sheep that have snot hanging down their nose.  I use Nuflor one day and Excede the next day with the daily

dose amount each day.  I will do this treatment till the animal is cured which is usually 6 to 8 days.  On another note I have been using the vaccine Josh has made for deer on my sheep and have had considerable less problems in my bighorn.  FYI

My personal opinion on Draxin it is not worth using on deer or sheep for pneumonia.  Good luck.

Thanks all. Finally got him to eat a bit and drink some again tonight. So hopefully he's starting to turn the corner.

I have had the blind stare almost dazed I used thiamine on him some oral some under skin. Mine was listerosis or "goat polio" I wouldnt see why illness couldnt bring a b1 deffinency

Good luck hope he comes around for ya nothing worse than loosing one

I'm pumping it in him and hoping.got some exceed in him tonight. What are your guys recommended amounts to give and how often. (Aside what vets tell us, if you had luck doing it another way). Also spending some quality time with the little guy. Maybe the company will up his spirits to fight harder.

I have an 8 week old fawn that has been diagnosed with pneumonia via chest X-ray. Feel like we have tried one dose of everything and nothing is working. Any suggestions?

Nuflor first but sometimes I use LA 300 but that brings a problem with bone growth.  But real bad cases of pneumonia I use LA 300 because I'd rather have a little bone growth problems than a dead deer.

NuFlor...........Sub Q and Daraxin............I/M.....................REPEAT in 3-5 Days!!.............There are NO one shot wonders!!
