Political correct term

It's a little thing to us but the antis are pushing it to the public and making some head way with our use of shooter bucks. Our term shooter buck is not political correct. We should be using stocker bucks, just like they use the term stock a fish pond, stock a pheasant hunting facility. We need to only use the term stocker bucks. I can hear a few of you already, who cares what they think, but we should care.

We are looked at by many people that don't have any ideas about this industry so lets not help our critics with this turn off term. Please don't use the word shooter bucks as it is not helping our industry. Just looking to help our industry.

Jack, I agree 100%. I think it's just like preserves saying ''guaranteed hunt''. It's just more amo for others to use against us. Although, I prefer ''hunt bucks '' over ''stocker bucks''. Stocker bucks just doesn't sound right to me.

Jack,This is a simple ? I wish someone would answer............IF we are a 3 BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY! WHY DOES EVERYONE WANT US TO BE ON THE DEFENSE ALL THE TIME! I for one believe WE are a very viable industry! That should not have to be politicly correct on termanology that APPLIES to OUR INDUSTRY! keep givin in and see how that works out for us. It will be some more "CHANGE" but not the kind of "CHANGE" YOU HAD IN MIND!

Wayne,

Our industry is a drop in the bucket compared to other livestock industries.

The cattle industry doesn't take that stance with the public and neither should we. The cattle industry is twenty times more of a viable industry than us and yet in my area they advertise how well they care for their animals. The milk industry in California want the public to believe the milk cows are happy producing milk and are well cared for. I really think milk is more important to our children's health than harvesting deer and yet the milk producers try to please the public. Every other livestock industry tries to put up a good humane front to the public. What makes you think we should not do the same?

As far as change this industry is in for one for sure if we lose our harvest farms in North Dakota.. It is about to become a live or die situation for the deer industry if North Dakota does lose this on November 2. It will sweep through this industry in many more states if antis win in North Dakota. The industry has had ten years to get ready for attacks like North Dakota is under. We are really no more prepared than when this attack was against Montana. This has been an industry failure to not be prepared for this attack from antis. Promotion and education to the general public might have saved us from this attack.

Curtis,

When I was in the harvest business that is the term I used. We were harvesting deer and elk for food and trophy. Because that is truly what we are doing.

I agree Jack. I pledge to not use the term "shooter buck." It will be a tough habit to break, but I'm with you.

Like I said guys it's a small thing but used against us by antis. Being political correct is not giving up anything it's just the way this world is now. Thank you for the support on this as I think it will help the industry in a very small way. I think we should all look for ways too improve our industries image with the public. Like most of you I would like to just say up yours on political correct terms but that will not help our industry.

I agree with you on many points Jack, and I certainly appreciate your passion. Just a thought here... I would do away with calling it the "politically correct" term and just say let's use stocker instead of shooter. It may just seem like semantics, but I know that the term politically correct really bugs me to no end, and I'm sure it does others here as well. The PC thing has been taken to such a ridiculous level that it's just become really annoying.

If we just ask everyone to call them stockers vs shooters I think it would taste a lot less like vinegar going down.

Thanks again for staying on this Jack!

Michael,

Sounds good to me. Lets all try to use the term stocker bucks from now on for our industries public image.
