Premature fawns

We had a doe that had triplets last night.....all dead this morning. Her due date was around May 26th, but she typically has them 1 week early.

My question is, what are the visual signs of premature fawns? They were 4 3/4, 5 and 5 1/2 pounds. But to me, they looked premature. Their feet were really white and the soft knob on the bottom was quite large.

Can't do anything about them now, but as always, trying to learn something from this.

Thanks

This was a natural breeding, but I put CIDRs in 8 live bred does to synchronize them with our 10 AIs as they were ones I would be bottle feeding. We give 3cc of Cycloplus (per Dr Jan Von Tonder) to all does after pulling CIDRs.

Just a pure guess from my experience with other animals, the eyes will be partially or fully closed, the head will be the wrong shape (abnormally round on top) and the hair will be much shorter than normal.

I am so sorry to hear about your fawns........it's so sad. I love this time of year with the babies, but man, the stories of the ones that don't make it, kill me!!!!
