I'm new to your board and have a few questions about raising a fawn.  His mother way hit by car about 3 weeks ago and we've been bottle feeding him since.  I've been offering fresh water every day, some fresh black dirt, sleeping in a x-pen right now with straw.  He's eating about 40 oz a day (approx 1100 mls) of red cap milk.  I've already ran a fecal on him and treating him for coccidia (i'm a veterinary technician).   Was also giving him pumpkin as well to help along the loose stools.  I just bought deer pellets to offer and I'm also offering him fresh greens.  He's bright, active, knows I'm the lunch wagon :)

A.) is there anything else i can do for him?

B) is he eating enough or should he be eating more?

C) how do i get him to start eating solid foods?

Thanks in advance

Nikki

Sprinkle powdered milk on his deer pellets will help them start eating the grain.

Sounds like your doing a fine job.

Good luck

Thanks!  Picked a bunch of clover and dandelion leaves for him and he started munching right away.  Go figure

40ozs is alot of fluid. Just think how full you feel after turkey day dinner with the family. lol   If you feed him a bit less fluid he will pick up on his solids!

I believe he's about 4 weeks old now.  He's about as rammy if not more than my 2 year old.  He's pounding down 11-16 oz at a time, eating fresh clover, dandilions, apples, carrots as well.  Tried adding the powered milk to the top of the pellets still really not that interested in them yet.  Happy that the diarrhea has cleared up too.  Thanks for everybody's help on this.  Been a lot of work to keep this little guy going but it's also been a great experiance as well.

I swear that this little critter has the first class treatment.  He gets fresh clover, dandelions, etc 3 times daily on top of 3 bottle feedings of 14 oz each time.  Can't wait to let this little bugger out in the yard to live.  He's eating better than me!
