Red hind calving?...

As you may tell I'm from the uk so bear with me, I have a hind that is quite restless she will kick her back leg out and move from one part of the paddock to the other lying down and getting up again then lying down etc etc I can see her teets when stood right behind her it's the time for calving very soon late May through June.just seeing if anyone can help me on this one or is it something else.? She started this yesterday and still doing it today and she moves fine so hind legs must be ok but keeps kicking them out etc.

She may just be in labor, labor can vary in length from animal to animal. As long as the calve hasn't started out yet, it can still be alive, but if she don't have the calf soon I would be concerned that the calf may die inside her, or is too big for the hind to push out. Over the last 20 years we have lost a couple calves in our cattle herd because the calf was to big for the mother to get out on her own. Once the calfs feet show, you only have an hour, if that, to get it out or it can suffocate. I have noticed with our cattle, that In a normal birth, from the time you see the hooves protruding, she usually gets the calf out within a half hour.

I HAVE SEEN HORSES DO THIS WHILE WATCHING THEM ON THE FOALING CAMERA I ALWAYS THINK THAT THEY ARE DOING THIS TO HELP GET THE FOAL IN POSITION MAY DO IT FOR A NIGHT OR TWO AS LONG AS SHE IS NOT DOWN PUSHING OR DISTRESSED IT IS SOMETHING LIKE WHAT I HAVE SEEN WITH THE HORSES
