I am looking for a list of "to-do's" or "need to have" to start buying semen. I assume most of you are paying somebody to store semen and then when you are ready to use it you send your tank to them and get it deliver back to you? Long story short is that I want to buy some semen and really have no clue on what to do to arrange storage / transportation. Thanks in advance.

When you buy the semen the seller will call the storage facility where it is kept and have them release it in your name. You can either open an account there or make arrangements to have it shipped to what ever facility you want. When you get ready to use it your vet will have it shipped to him or he will pick it up. When we started we got caught up in buying way more semen than we had does to use it in. It was like Christmas time. There are so many bucks that look so good its hard to resit. Come up with a plan and stick to it. You will save yourself a bunch of money. Good luck.

We simply have our semen shipped to us when we are ready to use it. We have a semen tank and can store it there, but we don't get it until right before we are ready to use it. We don't want the hassle of keeping it here and having to get our tank constantly recharged. The storage facilities want their shipper tanks sent right back because everyone is getting semen about the same time. If it works to send it to your vet and they have a tank that's a good way to go too. By the way, it costs little to nothing to store semen, so don't worry about storage costs.
