I have a doe with two buck fawns on her. She is very week from heat exhaustion (dog got in pen), do not known if she will make it. My question is the fawns are three weeks old and very jumpy, do I pull the fawns or see if the other ( 7 )does in the pen will take them on. I did see one of the fawns nursing on another doe today, just for about 10 seconds. If I do pull them can I put them in a small pen 4'x4' until they build trust, or what would some of you do? I am treating the doe with meds, and keeping her cooled down with water baths. Thanks for any help.

The first year we got fawns that were 3-4 weeks old...they wouldn't drink out of a bottle but they did drink out of a bowl which worked out ok. My wife slept in the pen the first night to calm them down and by morning, they were walking all over her. You don't have too many options...but i think if you can get them calmed down, they will drink out of a bowl and not a bottle. Good luck.

Dchadwick,

Have you seen the fawns nursing on the other doe anymore? if not you onlyu other option is to bottle feed......It will take some time getting them to win over your trust....but they will get hungry and eventually take the bottle if your persistant. I wish you the best of luck....sorry to hear about your doe....dam Dogs..... guess they don't know any better!!

watch them and see if they start to get thin. I have an old doe in the pen that I have seen cleaning and feeding 4 different fawns this year that are not hers. Good Luck

I would watch and see if they are able to steal milk. We lost a doe a few years ago with a 3 week old on her, and it became the "village baby" almost every doe in the pen helped take care of her. Getting one to bond to you and take a bottle at that age is really, really tough. You also have to take into account the stress level that they will be under, being handled that much at that age.
