Why are you using the sulmet? Are you using it to treat or prevent an illness or as a systemic repellent? It is very tricky to treat water troughs for very long with enough to repel the midges. We order sulfamed-g powder in 25lbs buckets out of Missouri. We mix it thoroughly in a separate jug before we pour it into our troughs. I was treating my water troughs heavily in 2012 with sulfamed-g and had minimal EHD losses . I did get a lot of diarrhea but managed to get most of the problem straightened out with digestamax4 and probiotics. I don't recommend anyone try this.

Jonathan I use Sulmet every year during EHD season will treat drinking water 3 to 7 days a month ! At this time of year thousands of birds r migrating thru okla. just makes sense to prepare, for there issues also! As far as the diarrhea antibiotics don't discriminate they attack the problem bacteria , and the healthy bacteria that's why we as farmers work on acceptable levels of consumption as I said in earlier post my EHD preparation sttarts early the use of sulmet is one of my steps while waiting on a freeze Good luck M Kwitowski
