:(Well we lost a doe fawn yesterday.

Went to feed as usual at 5:30pm and saw three large dogs on our property. They scooted when we approached.

Found one doe fawn missing and began to look - found her dead near where the dogs had been!

I drove the area looking for the dogs, but did not see them also stopped and asked at every house in the area, but NO ONE HAD DOGS LOOSE and I did not see the three culprits.

Now I hate to hurt any animal; however, I am not going to put up with this and notified all the people I talked to that loose dogs on my property could be considered DEAD from this point on!

Due to the weather my dogs were inside; or this would never have happened.

Both my wife and I are sick about this.

Evidently the dogs had the deer so scared that the doe fawn jumped a 6' fence and then the dogs killed it!!!!

I hate people who let their dogs run wild with no training or thought of what they might do- so now it's open season on stray dogs on my place!

They will be back given any chance so be prepared as much as you can. Large live traps can be used on strays and catch and release of anything not doomed. If your dogs travel all of your grounds it is hard to trap or snare without unwanted catches. I have had the same thing with deer run into fences and injured and necks broken. Then the dogs go home...makes it hard to deal with. Good luck Jim

SSS. I would not hesitate. If they got 1, they will be back for more.

Tis a shame, given how I feel about animals. In the last few years we have taken dogs that are "dumped" at our property to the nearest shelter. It costs us time, effort + $25.00 for each dog.

I won't be doing that anymore.

Actually it's the owners that should be punished, not the animals.

Given the caliber of some of the people it is a losing battle and one that I am reluctantly going to solve by the only method I know.

Poisons are out - I don't believe in that.

Traps are out - my two dogs have been trained to walk the property line, but will not cross - even in the heat of rabbit chase.

I am now looking into an 8' fence around the entire 32+ acres - with a wire barrier on the ground also to stop digging under.

I buried the fawn this morning and must tell you I was and remain a very unhappy "camper".

Hog Traps with meat might work.....I caught a Coyote one time and it was a skinny one too ...and relocated it . Some Ranchers kill dogs in there property.

I COMMEND YOU FOR TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING...GOD KNOWS I HAVE TRIED TIME AND TIME AGAIN...BUT

They can and will still run them...from the outside ...I lost many deer...some were my favorite...

I have lost deer to dogs THREE DIFFERENT TIMES...and have stopped may other times/tragedy's with just scrapes.

I lost two huge pied bucks... a favorite Fallow deer and a few doe... Fawns that were killed in December after bottle raising them...I can send you graphic detail...

I love dogs...My life and others depend on my dogs...But if you let them...they will kill your deer!...It is not the dogs fault, but I lost many great deer...With nothing to show...Let alone the fact...I loved them and they were attacked it their home...I did everything I could to save them...but they will still hit fences when chases from the outside...Dogs do not care if they can get in ...The chase is fun.

PEOPLE DON'T CARE IF THEIR DOGS RUN...I have caught dogs on my property found out who the owner was kindly asked them to come get it and tie it up and was told...Let the dog go it will come home on it's own and I would have to bare with them it may take a few weeks to lock the dog up...They know they chase deer...and tried to keep it tied up last hunting season...but they slip their collars, so they will have to find time to buy new one's!!!

I WILL NOT LOSE ANOTHER DEER TO DOGS

If you have neighbors you can trust circle the wagons

I Have multi-strand cable snares set on the corners of my pen, set where I can easily visually check them.

Use relaxing lock snares and the animal caught will not be harmed.

They work 24 hrs./day, 365 days / year.

No bait, about a buck apiece.....freezing rain is the only thing that stops them.

The Snare Shop, snareshop.com in Iowa is where I get mine.

They've taken care of dozens of dogs and coyotes over the last 10 years.

Do not set them where deer could get tangled, they will fight them untill the end. There is a break away device if deer are a possibility.

Hope this helps.

I gave up on the sss

I lost 3 bucks 5-30-08

And now I have lawers fees on top of the lost.

But I haven't gave up they are going to pay for my lost.

Now I shoot the dog and call the dog warden to come and get the dog and take it home.

She then gives them a ticket for dogs run at large.

My neigbors know what will happen to there dog if it sets foot on my place.

30.06 and 24 power scope I can get them.

Sorry about your lost

Even if they are on your land chasing your animals the dog owner can sue for the cost of the dog...That is the only reason I say get them before they get you.SSS Shut Up being the important part don't tell anyone...

I just want to prevent loss now...I tried calling and talking and working it out the dog wardens just act like your bothering them he even told them the deer farm called and complained about their dog...None of that works.

Blue Marlin does well...but you gotta watch.I like to see what I kill... so I know I am getting something that deserves it.

Best of luck what ever you choose...You will still need luck!

As of this afternoon - just bout an hour ago - there is one less. Was the same group of three. Tried for all three but my aim for the two running like blue blazes was not so good! Don't feel to good about it, but then I don't feel too good bout a doe fawn who was chased and killed in her home! A home that I'm responsible for.

Maybe I'll get visited by a dog owner - probably one I talked to last night who said their dogs weren't loose and would never chase or kill a deer!!!!!!

Look forward to talking to them it that comes about.....

Appreciate all the kind words from you all and the suggestions..

Scott I have the electric fence; however, when my entry gate is open it ain't electirfied (at the gate) so that's the entry point. An AK 47 does well also.

Interesting note:

Had a visit last night from a person looking for a dog!

Naturally the dog just escaped from a "good" pen. Seems it was one of the dogs that killed the fawn.

I pointed that out to him and told him if I saw the dog I would be sure to let him know!!!

That's one dog that won't come home.

Here in ohio I have the right by law to shot and kill the dogs.

The warden said not to shot them in the butt and send them home.Thats when I would have the prolem.I have sent 5 dead dogs home now.

We've had these problems too. Had some killed. Also killed several agressive dogs. Hate to do it but this is our livelyhood. I actually had our neighbors border collies running them after numerous warnings I had the cops out. She even told police " I only warned her 3 times" I showed her a copy of the revised code giving me the right to shoot to kill and haven't seen her dogs since. Chalk it up to ignorance!
