I am a SMALL deer farmer in OK and I'm having a hard time selling the my first two fawns from lastyear, and my doe is prego again. I really just got into this to raise a buck and watch him grow, and everyone said I needed a doe for a companion. My question is can I just get another buck and seperate them in the fall crazyness and everything be Ok between the two of them so I dont have to try and sell every year? I guess since I'm such a small farmer noone wants to buy from me??????????? Thanks in advance

If you put two bucks together come fall they should be fine together especialy if one is older than the other. Do not wait till fall to put them together or they will fight to the death in a small pen. Ihave 20 buck in one pen and i leave one older buck in with them and he keeps them in line. As soon as a couple start to fight he breaks them up. So in my opinion i think you would be fine.

I agree and think they will be fine, but what I wouldn't do is separate them and have only one deer per pen... that will cause much more stress and problems than keeping them both together. In most cases you just can't keep one deer in a pen by themselves without causing them major stress.

What are the bloodlines of your fawns? Maybe we can find you a buyer to offset the feed bill.

Can you post a pedigree on them?

i only have to deer rite now buck and a doe and a couple months ago my buck got chaseing my doe around and stress her out and she went through the fence. i got her back and i have had them seperated ever since by them selves and there doin fine. i did let um back together after a couple weeks of being apart. he just started running her around and hornin her so i moved her back. if yah have a calm herd i think its ok having them seperated.

The bloodline I have isnt the best on the market but good for a small time breeder (I think). My bucks daddy came from a guy here in OK who scored around mid 180's (typical) as a 5yr old. and my does daddy probably around 150's (typical) as a 3yr old.
