Okay, so I hear people all the time saying that a particular fawn will be HUGE because he has a stacked pedigree. They say that this particular sire is in his his lineup x amount of times, that doe is the mother to buck Y, who also produces well, etc. Everyone has heard this, beit a sales pitch or just conversation.

I'd like to hear some guys fess up (please, if these stories exist) about a pedigree they were just SURE was going to produce a monster, but wound up with a 130" 4-year old (example). Any takers? Pictures welcome.

Thanks.

Antlervalley, I'll jump in. We have two bucks out of TimberJack and a Big Jake doe. With TJ pushing 400+ this year and Big Jake being 345@5 one would be thinking big narly non typicals, right? WRONG!!!! We have two clean, no stickers, kickers, fliers, drops, nothing extra typicals out of this cross. They are two years old this year with one going 6x5 est. 165-170 and the other is 6x5 est. 145-150. They are not monsters by any means but they sure was NOT what we were expecting out of this cross. I'm not saying anything bad about anyones deer. TJ will be in our breeding program this fall it is however strange how the genetic makeup of deer work. Pictured is one of the bucks. This is the reason we all play the " deer game". Isn't it? The picture is from 7-8-09 he has grown a lot but still as clean as any buck going. Good luck to everyone this year. There is some real STUDS being grown out there.

You always hear how many good offspring a buck produces, never how many dinks. You can AI 100 does out of a sorry buck and still get a few good ones and AI 100 does out of the best buck in the world and you will still have some scrubs.

If A + B = C the deer buisiness would have been done for a long time ago. This is what gives us small guys hopes and keeps the big guys from running away with the whole buiness . Yes , many huge bucks have been produced by carefull planning and expensive genetics and this is the fast track , but there are still going to be bucks coming out of the ¨weeds¨ that will surprise even their onwers . The smaller ones will keep many humble for their efforts and their next shinning stars will be even sweeter . Jim

Here is something off of the Beaten path.....These twins are out of Earvin Yoders Buoy and a Mister Doe. Buoy is a Mister son that died at 2, he had a huge frame and was a 6x6. Earvin continues to breed large frame, tall tined bucks. The video is of Air Force One and Air Force Two located at Harry Yoders Pondside II Farm. This is what we are all trying to Raise. Video was taken 2 weeks ago. Click on the www.warrenwhitetails.com link here or in my signature. The video is towards the bottom of the home page.

You guys and girls all know what I mean here when I say we eat, sleep and live deer. My thought's were with this great cross John posted above. Bad enough I dream about my deer but now I dream about someone elses great deer. Yup Updraft's sister to Maxbo Hardcore would be a great cross for sure.

I'll put in my two cents. I will say first of all that all great deer come from great genetics being stacked generation upon generation, with our future in the fawns!!! There are daughters of brand name deer that do not produce, its just the plain ol truth! That's why I like pedigrees that are filled with proven Does top and bottom of pedigree. Does that fall into the (ELITE,SUPER,or POWERHOUSE) category. You have to tip the odds to your favor by asking questions and doing your homework! Good ol prayer dont hurt either!

Simple Math -- Great heritable sire + Great heritable dam = Great heritable animal!!
