The best part of NADEFA Conference was gone

Didnt want to start a fight. Just want to hang out at my booth at night.

Great job Quad..I know that there are several farms in closed border states supporting farms in the north..I support you 100% and I think what you are doing is great..

You guys need to go back and read what I said. I am not the one making the complaints. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT PREVIOUS ISSUES FOR THOSE WHO TRIED TO DO THIS DURING A BENEFIT AUCTION. I have never complained about someone's donations. Geez balls people. Darren you of all people should know when I have something to say I say it. I don't claim someone else did and hide behind that kind if crap. I mearly said some are questioning why it was done when in the past others were told no. I wasn't even aware others were told no.

No problem Roger, if you dont have the proper info, or are speaking for someone else who wont reveal thier name--why even post it? Now lets get onto something more constructive. Darren

By the way Richie, I agree with you,my money is on Mark, but Holy cow look who is having fun with this thing --Nathan--John Ervin--Greg Fleese--.........this will be exciting to watch!!!!!

Actually. I am the first one to come up it and put their own cash up. The other deal was a joke and they tried to raise outside money for a contest that went on for years.

I put cash money up and it ends with yearlings. It was also limited so it wasn't a free for all.

And your math skills are horrible.

Grab a calculator and type in $300000 x .10 and get back with us.

I was sitting there when you announced your contest, I was glad to see it went well, But not so impressed with you anymore. Quote: the other deal was a joke.

I actually deserve that. I used a poor choice of words. The other contest was unsuccessful. My apologies.

I applaud anything anyone does to promote other deer farmers and our industry as a whole. We need more of it.

The entire industry needs to have more fun and get more enjoyment than we are right now. I am going to do everything I can to make sure that happens.

Guys, I want to make one thing clear if possible.

I am in this to have fun. I thought this challenge would be a lot of fun for everyone and was a way to support deer farmers and the industry.

Now, I did ask Nadefa for the time to run our 1 minute video and to let me talk before we sold the "Extra" semen lot.

What happened after that was never asked for, or planned until that moment when Shawn asked me if they could sell it on the floor right then. They wanted to raise the money on the spot, and they did. I didn't pay for that or mention that, I had NOTHING to do with that.

I am sorry that offended people, that was not my goal. I simply wanted to have fun, challenge my peers and raise money for good causes. I believe for the most part we accomplished that.

The last thing I wanted to accomplish, and this will take some time, is that a contest/challenge or promotional item can be run with honesty and integrity, run professionally and everyone involved will benefit. I can't do that completely until it runs its course but, I promise you that EVERYONE involved will be more than pleased with the end result.

I apologize to everyone reading that I broke my rule about counting to 10 before I post! The thought that anyone felt like I was trying to take away anything from anyone or NADEFA got me flustered. I hope you guys can forgive me for that.

Quad

Quad, it takes a Man too admit his mistakes.....I admire you for that...thanks for doing your part to help NADefa....which in turn helps Us! I need to learn your count to 10 rule as well........probably would save me a lot of trouble! thanks again!

Back on topic........

I am not going to say I was 100% satisfied with the conference but, we still ahd a great time and a good show.

I don't have answers to some of these problems but, I would love to see if anyone has solutions. I am not on the board but, I think if we can collectively come up with smart solutions to take to them we can get them to listen.

So we know this is about fundraising for NADEFA. They need auction time and they need bidders. Besides the auctions booth space and sponsors is how they make money.

Here a few thoughts from my point of view. I know some will contradict others but they are ideas, not a plan.

1.) Lets do away with the deer auction. It was horrible in my opinion as everyone was breaking down their booths. Not to mention by spring break I think we are about deer auctioned out.

2.) Integrate the deer auction into the benefit. In otherwords lets give up commission or something to NADEFA. I think the auctioneering gets donated anyhow. This lets people sell real lots and it benefits NADEFA also. Maybe this needs to be super limited and cherry picked lots to bring the most money.

3.) Do something about the semen lots. Yes we all love to try and buy there because it seems to be a good way to buy good semen extra cheap. The downside is that many people won't put the really hot and marketable stuff in the auction because it doesn't bring top dollar and many buy it back to save face. I personally would rather just donate money than sell semen for cheaper than farm price. It is a donation auction after all, fundraisers are supposed to bring more, not less, for items than they are worth. The result of all this is not the most marketable semen being sold for the most money.

4.) Keep the auction room close to or in the same spot as the exhibitors. I think this is self explanatory.

5.) Maybe do the auctions over brunch/lunch and leave the evenings open for exhibitors? This poses an issue for all the seminars though.

Like I said, I don't have answers but, instead of just complaining lets talk solutions and make it better. With all the great minds on here I am sure we can resolve some of these issues and bring them to NADEFA as a group which I am sure would be very much appreciated.

Quad,

Deepest apologies for my comments. I had my facts wrong and consequently opened my mouth and inserted my foot. I believe you are part of the next generation of quality deer farmer. I got quite an education on the kind of person you really are, unfortunately it was after the fact.

Sincerely

Jim Warren

I'm in agreement with ideas toward solutions, rather than complaints, to make everyone have as much fun as possible at the NADeFA conference or any other event for that fact. There is much energy lost in negativity that would be nice to harness and put toward positive ideas and steps that our industry could certainly use these days.

I wasn't brought up with much, but we always had plenty, so I too don't have to be catered to with such a nice place and all the fancy meals. Home cooking, old fashioned BBQ, Burger cookout or whatever like it in a place like a fairgrounds building in even a smaller city would suite me more than fine and might many others versus the expense of a downtown setting. I don't know what all factors have to be considered for a large event like the NADeFA conference, but I would sure like to put in that I don't have to live so high on the hog at the event. I'm a deer farmer, a small deer farmer at that. I've been in the grime for weeks on hunts, crawled in the mud and muck to build what I have just like many of you I presume. Maybe to not only raise more dollars, but rather not spend any more than they have to the conference could wind it down a couple notches. Like someone esle mentioned, this is not a plan, maybe not even a good idea to lower expenses on a location, but it's a possible start towards tossing something around that may end up helping.

Larry,

awesome post....you are spot on with what you said...unfortunately, I could not be at the NADefa conference this year...but I was part of it through my participation on the Internet.......I can certianly understand the complaints about the rooms where the booths are setup being locked down at such an early hour.....not good for those who spent good money for a booth and were not able to use it accordingly .....that was definitely a bad thing....but the complaints about the food and accomidations is a bit over the top if you ask me.....this event is not about luxury and splurging on a good time...this is NOT HOLLYWOOD.......if NADefa can save a dollar by having the show in a less expensive area....then GOOD for them...they are doing exactly what we are paying them to do...and that is being financially responsible for the money we donate.....it makes me upset to hear people complain about the food and accommodations........like I said ...I was not there....but unless it was super disgusting and the food was not worthy of eating.....I think the complaints are over the top.......again...just my opinion .......but like I said if they actually saved some dollars by having it in a less expensive place then good for them...but on the other hand if they spent just as much as they would have if they were to have it in a more popular city...then shame on them and the complaints are justified.....hope thats not the case....

Last year I actually thought there was too much food. I don't really need breakfast lunch and dinner. Also, there should be some time set aside for just exhibitors. Otherwise there are always things going on and very few people in the exhibit hall. If you are going to attend, pay for a booth and be at your booth all day you want it to be worth your while.
