The day has come...

You won't be able to ship to Kentucky anymore. They don't allow animals from any state with a confirmed case of CWD.

Ok there is a surprise.....NOT.......it was surrounding us on at least two sides......very close to the borders....but in my opinion was probably here before that.........all this cwd monitoring is a bunch of crap.....now here we go again they will say the deer farms caused it...because we are so heavily monitored and that is where it was found first..............oh well, I knew it was just a matter of time........welcome to to CWD gang....which is a bunch of to do about nothing......just my opinion.....

When you test hundreds of thousands of deer over the last few years(wild and captive) Wouldn't you think one might come back false positive..who knows if it really is positive. Whatever....guess we are at the ag's mercy, see what they want to do next, surely it won't be good.

I hear you antlershed........been trying to hold strong but this just might be the nail in the coffin............

I have a serious question about all this. I know what happens to your deer if they find it in your herd (that's the chance we all take), but what does or can happen to your land? How much latitude does the state have? That's honestly my BIGGEST concern with this issue- they may end up basically condemning a property as a "biohazard" or something (as stupid as we all know that to be in real life). How far down the rabbit-hole is this going to go?

Just got an email from our states top dog and he says no deer can come into Ny from Pa untill further notice!! That sucks, With some great deer i just bought. It really was just a matter of time with Pa having more deer farms than any other state! I just hope that farm kept a sample for themselves to retest. Take it for what its worth but anyone that sends in a cwd sample without keeping a sample or two with your own vet is just not using their head!!

Very good question.....I thought the same thing.....as crazy as they are with the regulations.....this is a very good question to bring up...wish I had the answer....does anyone??

Well that makes no sense...a State that already had the CWD..........is now saying no deer aloud.......you got to be kidding.....that's just to funny......Mike I hear you on the extra samples....but trust me if they pin you with CWD.....you can have a thousand samples and they will be positive........how could you ever proove their not?....

Jeff, 'not saying that they (presently) can't do just about what they want to but I'd give 'em pure hell if they didn't have to do the same public lands also (condemn your farm).

You folks have to get up to speed with what is happening in Iowa. They found a positive on a ranch that had been a closed herd for 10 years and was in the CWD program since 2002! They are telling them they need to double fence it and all animals must be killed with no compensation. It is a hunting preserve but all the deer there came from one farm - the place that owns it. They cannot take deer from their farm to the ranch to fulfill the hunts they have. They are being told their deer all must be killed with no compensation. In my mind this is a taking and I believe the law states they must be compensated for a taking. This is something to watch - just like the place in PA. This is standard operating procedure for someone with a CWD positive - they have to wipe everything out at no compensation. That is just wrong!

By the way - Kentucky will probably be the next state to find it!

I would have a lawyer first and then i would have the first sample tested by someone other than the place that did the first test and then i would have the second sample tested by some place that had nothing to do with the first two!!

I know in past cases they have made you keep up the fences for 5 years to make sure no animals get in. I think they let people have crops or whatever on the land...but no animals...and fence got inspected every year just like if they still had the deer.

You're right, we all should stay up to speed on all these pending situations. I've tried to continue to gather information, but don't have it all.

However, let's just say the operation in IA wanted to get rid of all their deer and get out of the deer business altogether. Then what? Do they HAVE to keep the fence up? Do they HAVE to double fence it if they aren't keeping deer? Are they allowed to use the ground for anything they want afterwards? We don't have a preserve, so if CWD ever found its way to us, we would be done with deer, since I can't imagine it would be worth the hassle to start over, assuming the state would even allow it. But... then what? Do we double-fence it on our own dime just because a CWD positive deer once lived there? The lack of intellectual integrity government agencies show regarding this issue it amazing.

I am just wondering if some of these answers are known, or if they are just making stuff up as they go along.

Thanks for the reply. 5 years? Where did that arbitrary number come from? What happens after the 5 years, I wonder? What about other (farmed)animals in that fence?

New rules: You can put other livestock in, on this land

Like I said before, this has to come down to a Federal lawsuit. Is NADEFA up for it?

People, we better get organized, and get our check books out. We have to draw a line in the sand.

It's just a matter of time, and anyones farm will get a positive.

This is what 100% testing will get you!

Missouri has closed their borders. We had better wake up. Those sitting on the sideline better get on board.

Minnesota will not allow deer from the county a wild deer is found positive, plus any county that touches the affected county. If no wild deer has been found positive in these counties, in Pa., we can still import from these counties.

If a deer farm has a positive, it does not classify it as an endemic area.

If deer farms are double fenced, [and have a 5 year neg. status] we can still import from them, even in an endemic area.
