The weather is beating me up pretty good here in northeast pa. I had to pull a fawn today. I came home from work went in the pen to feed and the little guy just layed there very cold to touch, yesterday he was running with the other fawns. I brought him in and warmed him up he is moving a little now. We have had cold nights and rainy days here for weeks. The pens are soaked there is not a dry place for them to go in there

cold and wet....a killer for fawns......imagine what the wild fawns are going through......Mother Nature can be cruel at times!!

It has finally warmed up here in the north, last sat. & sun mid 70's , mon, tues, wed mid 80's , thurs 75deg fah. had about 3/4 " of rain from three thunder showers. Our farm is built on sand so I takes 1 1/2" to see if we got anything and it's soaked in in about three hours.

Noetheast Pa is getting hammered with rain for weeks now, farmers cant get hay cut, corn stalks starting to turn yellow, it is suppose to warmup, but with more rain expected.I have one more doe to fawn out, what a mess.

Eastern Panhandle West Virginia is soaked! 2 1/2 inches night before last. Calling for more with flash flooding tonight. I hope not. Pens can't take much more. Allen

HOT AS HELLLLLLLLL! Southern Oklahoma----Thunderstorms about every two days. Heat index stay's around 112 everyday.

I didn't like the cold rainy weather we had earlier, but this is not what I wanted either. I know you guys in the south have hot weather down there, but the heat and humidity up here we have now is killing us. Yesterday was 92 degrees and today it is supposed to get close to that. It is so humid though. When you breath you can feel it restricting in your lungs. Our deer are out in an open field with little shade available. (my stupid planning) I am replacing our pens and then we will have more shade available then. But for now I am concerned for the deer. I will say the bucks seem to have kicked in though. I think Updraft and Max Thrust grew about an inch on each antler tip yesterday. The 2 year old pen stayed in the back so I didn't get to see them up close at all yesterday.

We only get a couple of days 100+ here in the summer, most of the time it's between 75 -85 deg fah. , right now the daylight last for 18 hours, never realy get dark...just light blue across the north until the sun comes up around 4 am in the NE.

Ps. you can not tell anyone about this or some Okies are going to want to haul their deer up here just for the summer

Roger, you don't know heat and humidity...... Come on down this way and we can show you some. lol I change the water twice a day for the deer to keep it as cool and fresh as possible. It was 97 at 11:00 am and is 99 now. I'll take some of the rainy cool weather you guys in PA don't want. Stay cool up there Roger and don't get your head sunburned........... P.S. I hope you have ol' Pearl in the house to keep her cool for us.

I wonder if when it is so hot do you guys down south still heat the milk to as warm a temp before feeding it? Or leave it on the luke warm to cooler side?

I'm about 200 ft from the county main. My water line is about 24" deep, so I just turn the tap on, and it will fill about 10 bottles before it starts to cool off.

Thats why "I" stress to new poeple to check the survivalbility of an animal before they buy it. Nothing against ANY bloodlines, but every deer is built different. This southern Oklahoma heat can be HELL on a whitetail. Even the distance between me and MP, we live about 4 hours apart, and there is a big climate change between us. M wifes family live about 10 miles from MP, and they get several snows a year. I might get a good snow once every three years. The pictures of me and the family on my website in the snow was a BIG deal to us. My little girl might see 7-10 good snows during her childhood. Im evan real picky on what semen to introduce to my herd, always checking the deers personal background(ask Randy on Miken), to see about the toughness of the animal himself. Thats why I like my PJ buck so well, him or his sire has never been sick, and means alot to me. Sorry about the soap box-----sitting in my work truck cooling off--go figure.

Well I guess I won't move all the way down by you then. Actually Jay, my deer seem to be handling it way better than I am. Yesterday I was cutting grass and after 3 hours I had such a headache I felt my head was about to explode. Someone was telling me their thoughts on blood flow when it is hot out and how it relates to antler growth. I think the heat must have been pushing my blood flow trying to make my hair grow:eek:

I'm looking out the window at Updraft and Max Thrust right now. Their walking around eating like nothings wrong, while I'm sitting in the air conditioning cooling it:cool:

No rain in last 5 weeks and temps here in LA have been 100 for the last week. Most of our fawns are yet to be born.

Last week my bucks were laying around not moving much you might see them get up half hour before dark. I was 80's and rain. This week bucks are up all hours of the day walking around eating clover with no shade at all in the pens. It was 95 yesterday with 80% humidity! That is a heat index of over 105 degrees! We had three Laborer's and an Operator go home sick at work, but the bucks act like its spring break. I think I even saw Razor eying the yearling does through the fence!

We are setting a record low today of 47 over night...We have not had warm/hot weather here...We have only had a handful of days in the upper eighty's...I think one day was in the low 90's

Roger, I feed mine luke warm, maybe even a little cooler. I also put a sprinkler in the pen for about an hour every afternoon, 3ish when it is sweltering. They play and love to lay on the damp dirt. We are so dry, in 15 minutes, you can't evet tell the sprinkler had been on.
