You all will think I'm crazy but I could use some advice. Wild buck fawn about 45 lbs. lost his hoof in my fence. Spent a complete day hanging on the fence. Cop came and cut the skin that was holding him up, "lots of 3 legged deer". Waited for mom to return and she never did. I started feeding him until I could find a rehabber to close his opened wound on hind leg. Can't find anyone, yet. Brought him inside to an enclosed stall. Feeding Ultra 24 Milk Replacer, drinking out of a bowl. Normal bowels/urine until 2 days ago. He slowly quit eating and looked close to death last night. Stomach is swollen but it doens't appear to be bloat. Gave an enema and he has gone 3 times since. This morning he is raising his head and weakly lapping Pedilyte and than following feeding with Replacer. I just purchased Norocillin to cover infection but haven't given him anything. Dare I continue or put him down? This is the toughest fawn in the State of Va. We are on day 6

I would'nt give up on him. I would get him off the milk and just give him pedilyte and offer up grain and hay if your going to keep him inside for awhile. I would try and get some help and get antibiotics in him. Get him to a rehabber asap!!! Good luck with the little guy!!

Thank you for caring! I didn't give up on him and followed your advice but he gave up just a day too soon. I was amazed how many wildlife rescues refused to help. Va. Fish and Game, a biologist, was coming today to help and a rehabber was found late last night. The little guy couldn't wait any longer and he passed away. Wildlife needs to be treasured and sometimes needs a little human intervention.

well I commend you for your efforts.......nature can be cruel sometimes.....I too found a fawn with it's hind leg stuck in a barbed wire fence once......my story turned out a little better as I was able to get it Un stuck as mommy watched from a distance....and it seemed to have nothing broken...........anyhow, again you did your best and that's all we can do.....sorry to hear he passed...
