Isaac, It could just be the way Typhoon is standing or it could be a shadow, but his front hooves look really long. In fact it looks like his front legs aren't sitting correctly. If what I am seeing is accurate he really needs those trimmed before you have severe damage to the front legs. Maybe I am wrong though. I would just check it though.

Thanks Mr. Pietrowski!

Your observation is correct, Typhoon's front hooves are long. He does not limp or show any sigh to our eyes of having it bother him... I would be concerned to put him down during his peek growing, What would you do?

Sorry it took a while to get back! I am still in school during the day. I will review this with Joe tonight :) (he heads up our animal heath)

Thanks For your sharp eye!

No problem Isaac. As a animal grower you have to learn to look at the whole picture and not just what is on the head in order to assess the health of an animal. It comes with time and I guess I just am sort of built to be more observant than the average guy. I look for what is wrong instead of just looking at what is right. That way of doing things comes in handy in my line of work, and not just on the deer farm.

The closeup looks like the hoof has already split and broke away from being too long. Just watch for any limping and even though this is a bad time because of antler growing I would never let that stop me from doctoring if a buck needed it. A dead deer don't grow antlers very well either.

Back to the books for me now.:(

Hey Roger and Laurie,

Was wondering if you would post this pic on Deer Farmer. This is a 3 year old. He shed early but looks pretty good. 22 inches wide. The picture doesn't do him justice but oh well. He has 19 points right now and I took the photo Thursday I think. That is Maximillion standing beside him.

I got this email from Tim and am posting for him.

The deer are looking good Jay. We have 2 straws of PJ to use this year. Keep us updated.

As you can see, P.J. is going to be wider this year. His two year olds are out to thier G-2's and the getting wider over thier ears, with no signs of extras at all. Rockstar is the slow grower, but remember he finished at 151"@1 last year.

We are exited about the Green#7 yearling out of a P.J. daughter and Proud Eagle, which is out of Soaring Eagle.(Pic posted)
