My vet is saying that he is having real trouble getting me Xylazine. His source has had him on back order for a couple months now. Anyone know of any shortages? It's time to cut my bulls and I don't have nearly enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

have your vet call Zoopharm and set up a prescription for BAM II, you call em and pay em, meds will be there in two days.

Dorneyville Pharmacy here in PA will also get you Xylazine. Never had a problem getting it from them.

BAM is definitely the way to go though!!

I suggest NOT getting xylazine and tolozine from Dorneyville. Myself and several others have had issues the past year or so with these drugs. There has been an abnormal amount of deer not reversing properly and dying.

Okay, Just got off the phone with Zoopharm. All they compund is the 300mg/ml Xylazine. All I have ever used is 100mg/ml Xylazine. I use 2 cc darts exclusively (I'm kinda stubborn and don't like to change what has worked) and was wondering what people use as a solution to obtain the 2cc volume. Will a sterile saline solution work? I know people recommended BAM, but like I mentioned earlier, I like to stick with what has worked. I finally have some valuable animals, and I'm a little leary of using something for the first time on them. Any info would be helpful.

I use the 3X all the time now, I have gotten used to it and I love it. I actually order it instead of the regular strength now because I can put an adult doe down with a half cc dart, and just a 1 cc dart for an adult buck.

You'll be fine with the 3X, Just figure your normal ratio, and fill the rest of the 2cc dart with sterile water.

if one has valuable animals then one would be crazy NOT to use BAM II, it is 100 times better than Xylazine. Recovery is faster and 100%. I sedated one buck three times in four days:eek:, over 40 times in the last nine years without ONE SINGLE problem of any kind. Down in 5-10 minutes, up within 3-4 minutes after reversal given. Out for surgery usually from 30min to 2 hours. You couldn't hold a gun on me and make me use Xylazine ever again.

$255.00 sedative and two reversals(three bottles)

11ml bottle of sedation, premixed. I use 1cc for a mature buck(Zoopharm recomends 2-2.5 but I find it not necessary. I use 1cc to sedate and operate on a 200# buck)

so $23.00 total down and up....per mature buck (my experience only)

IF you lose just one buck (of near any value) with Xylazine you have lost any savings from using a cheaper sedation.

dtla,

you are so right

Bam is all we will ever use unless collecting.

Out quick and up quick, safer when its hot and you HAVE to knock one out

less chance of capture myopathy

we use on fawns too works great. I use half the dose on them and get good results.

I placed an order the other day and it was $268 with delivery. It will be my first time using BAM but I've been meaning to order it for about a year. I had a slow reversal last year and decided then I would give BAM a try.

You have to get a prescription from vet first, then you are good to go. The women I spoke with was very cordial and she told me I would receive the kit in a few days.

John, try lesser dosages than what they recommend at first, like 1cc for adult bucks. If it is not enough you can walk up and hand stick more if you need it. You more than likely won't need more.

I've used Medetomidine( the M in BAM) for ten years. 1cc of BAM has 10.9mg of Medetomidine in it, I've used 8-10mg to knock out a 200# buck and do surgery for 30 minutes on him. Zoopharms recs on dosages are on the safe side, and sometimes it depends on the individual deer(so keep notes). I've seen year olds that I think you could just show em the bottle and they would pass out!!!!:D:D

DTLA,

what amount do you use on 140 to 160 pound yearlings?

just asking because if you use 1cc on 2 year old bucks the yearlings must be less

I would try between 1/2 and 3/4cc.

If it is not enough you can hand stick , or shoot again if you have to, with another 1/4cc. The drug, Medetomidine, is 100% reversable.

If treating for EHD I'd try to err on the light side and hit him with the Dex and Draxxin while he's standing drunk, then reverse immediately. This won't work on really wildarse deer but it works good on handleable up to "10 foot" deer. Never goes down and out.

again, like any drug, results can vary from deer to deer. I had a doe several years ago that took 2ccs to put her down but she was a "100 foot" deer. I have also seen 150# bucks go OUT on 1/4cc of BAM.

Trust me, you don't have to twist my arm to get more doses for the money although I know the reason you suggest using less is for the health of the deer. I always try to use minimal amounts for that very reason.

Has anybody else used Bam AIing does? And if so what was your experience and what was your AI success? My AI success went from a 3 year average of 86% to 45% using Bam. My question is, was it the Bam or was it something else?
