Yearling buck shed or broke one side?

I had a fellow deer farmer call me and ask if I'd ever had a buck SHED an antler already. I said no, other than some have broken them off.

Have any of you seen this? The yearling just started to shed his velvet, and boom.....the next day, one side is off and laying on the ground. Looking exactly like a natural shed at the pedicle.

The yearling acts fine, looks fine and is healthy.

Sorry, I don't have a picture, but just wondering if you have had this happen?

I had the same thing happen like 5 years ago. A yearling broke a side in October, or so I thought. When I picked the antler up, it looked exactly like a natural shed at the pedical, just as if he shed in February. He lost the other side in February and both looked like alike at the pedicels. He grew a fine and normal perfect 10 point rack the next year. I don't know what happened, but I assume it was a break from fighting and the break just happened to look like a shed I guess.
