listening to you helps me understand what line breeding does to ya. Better come off that mountain the altitude is getting to ya. You a Hatfield or Ma coy. Lot of anger up there.

Dogs that bite come from some real special people. Dog is no better then their owner.

You know what.....let's get off the dogs thing........(not that I don't agree with everyone here!!)..ITS ABOUT THE PEOPLE TRESPASSING ON PROPERTY THEY DON'T BELONG ON......PERIOD!! They have NO RIGHT being on the property....they should have to answer for that........Property is property....whether it your be your house....or your Deer pens!! Dear John....I'll give you your dog argument......let me ask you something.......someone walks in your house...and God Forbid....your wife would get frantic and run into a window to escape and die from hitting the glass......how would you feel....how would you react? Should they be responsible for scaring her and the circumstance that transpired?....(AGAIN I SAY GOD FORBID AS THIS IS JUST A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION I AM ASKING).....Property is property.....AND PEOPLE NEED TO RESPECT IT!!!

shade cloth is your answer. but you would rather use lethal ways . what land mines next.

Landmines...hmmm, never thought of that...not a bad idea...or maybe dig some pits and put pungie sticks in the bottom, that way you would know who your trespassers are by who's limping around town on crutches.

Don't nobody take offense here...just havin some fun here playing the game...:)

I've learned a few lessons in my life. I've learned biting your tongue hurts, so...to my buddy John. I guess (based on the criteria; curious people) that I have the most CURIOUS people on the planet. I get the same ones over and over stopping on our side roads. Evidently most of them have eye problems and can't drive during bright sunlight because they have tendency to admire my property after the sun starts setting or hours after darkness. I really do want to be considerate of their medical handicaps but instead I am jealous of their $40,000 pick ups that are rigged out to the max. Can you give me advice as how best to overcome my jealousy and accommodate their interests?

I still fail to see the point in shade cloth . What good is it on the ROAD SIDE when people walk all over our property to look at whats there on all sides . Do you think covering up their view is the answer ? Just asking . My pens are down hill from the hiway and any deer or elk thats in the middle or the far side of my pens will still be seen by anyone on that hiway. they'd just be looking over the shade cloth. Only animals right next to the shade cloth would be hidden all others would still be visible , so would they walk to the end or corners to look at the elk or deer ? Heck they walk all over anyway so what would the shade cloth on one side accomplish ? I already have trees and brush along my pen between them and the raod but being the road is elevated it has very little effect on hiding the elk . it really makes them walk over to the fence for a better look !

That is good advice. It's not preventive advice, but it's good advice. Last year I called the game Warden with a license plate number of a spot lighter being rather profound with his curiosity. I drove up behind him with my lights out and was within 50ft.of the vehicle before the sound of my diesel truck distracted him and he turned the light off. He drove off. I called the Warden on my cell. Warden showed up in 20 minutes later. 'gave description of the driver(s) and vehicle, plate number to the Warden .He said that he would actually have to witness the crime before it would be sufficient evidence for court. makes sense. not.

call the state police . county cops won't help. also they won't work together.

There are some pretty affordable security cameras out there, wireless and infrared. I had signs made with a big picture of a camera, No trespassing, No hunting, ... And I am planning on buying some cameras, A buddy of mine bought 4 and a dvr for like $300 on ebay, you can view them from an iphone too...I am going to invest, if someone is in the wrong and something happens to your animals, you have the proof!!

Scrape - Believe it or not...I have the exact same story to a T(last year). Pulled up behind em with my lights off(this was out by our free range hunting lodge), and just about the time thay were gonna shoot a second time, my lights came on. A chase ensued on the gravel roads. I passed em to get in front of them to stop them, and when I did they did a U-turn out into the bean field behind me and took off. We got the license number, that was enough(we thought), no sense chasing and someone gettin hurt, them or us.

Called the wardens, pretty much heard the same story from them as you did from yours. Bad deal no matter what!

Caught up with a trespasser once after running him down in the woods, that didn't turn out so good either...$4000 and 2 days in jail...for ME!!!

Long story...B.C.days Scrape...B.C.days! :)

This could go back and forth for ever and yes we should call the police , sherriff , what ever but it just doesn't replace our hard work and the lives of some of our animals . Once they're dead there's no do overs no bringing them back no finding out how good or bad they would have or could have been . It just shouldn't be happening ...PERIOD ! People today just don't have the respect for others and their property like they used to . Dearjohn ? What kind of message is " Be as good as the best and better than the rest " suppose to mean ? Im just courious , what do you mean by that ? Seems a bit odd you'd sign off your posts with that saying all the time . How good are you and at what ? I guess I can ask that question being that being just courious is ok in your book according to your past posts .

Just sent you a PM:)

Unfortunately, this seems to happen way more than it ever should. My theory is that you CAN NOT in any way be nice to these people. I usually go off like a crazy guy...it works good when you have a gun in your hand. Sometimes they need the cops to protect them from me.

It seems that every person that visits our farm the respectful way, by asking, usually ends up asking me if I ever had problems with trespassers or poachers. My reply is always simply, " Not since I shot that first guy back in 2004, I haven't had any problems" I say it with as much seriousness and boldness that I can. It usually gets the point across. I sometimes worry if they are there to check out what I have in the pens to sneak back later and shoot. Of course the 3 trained german shepherds, and 3 bloodhounds that greet them when they come up the driveway usually deters any further bad thoughts they may have.

My wife breeds and raises working german shepherds imported from Germany and Czechoslovakia. They are trained for attack, just like military and police dogs. As a matter of fact, our rejects are sold for police dogs. I would suggest anyone to have some dogs like these around for home protection. Not just deer farmers, any home owner. These are great family dogs and great with children...not so good with strangers. Our neighbors think we have wolves. For some reason, I don't have any issues. I can't imagine why. Maybe I'm just lucky.

We have always given people benefit of the doubt on "looking" at our deer... But, this weekend we changed our mind. One of our 2 year old stockers was shot off the Hwy. So, today we had to go and buy $12k worth of shade cloth to try and prevent this from happening again. But, according to DearJohn, they are just "curious". RIGHT!?!??!
