We had a yearling do that last year. This year he grew an antler that looked like a moose antler. Heavily webbed with minimal point.
He will grow out , most likely will be a glob as you say but u never no I have had them grow back pretty uniform. This is why we cut mid sep.

I think at worst his two year old rack will be ugly, but I think by age 3 he'll be back to normal, or close to it.
for example I had a buck that did that same thing as a yearling. As a two year old he was a junkie looking thing that was lucky to score 130". I thought about selling him and not taking a chance on him.
I kept him, here he is this year, no sign of injury ever.
