I am having to raise a very young fawn. She’s 5 days old. I have done all research that I can find and talked to everyone i know who have raised fawns. I’ve been feeding her a colostrum replacement and have ordered a milk replacement online since all stores surrounding me seemed to be out. The bag of colostrum said she only needed that for the first few days so I’m switching to the milk replacement as soon as it arrives which should be tomorrow. The first couple of days her poop seemed to be fine and solid but now it’s more runny and lighter brown/yellow and has a strong smell. She acts fine, eats great still, doesn’t seem to be bothered by anything but just wondering if this is normal and will subside when I start giving her the replacer? She’s definitely pooping more often when I’m stimulating her but I’m not sure if that’s due to her eating better or related to the poop color/smell. I’ve started giving her about an ounce or two of electrolytes in between her bottles just so she won’t be dehydrated either. I’m not really sure how often they should be pooping. It isn’t a lot when she does do it but she does it about every few hours when I stimulate her and feed her. Any advice on her poop would be greatly appreciated!

Hi I am in the same boat and wondering if you have found anything else out about this. Fawn is roughly 3 weeks old on fresh goats milk. And now her poop has become a light white yellow so so sticky and a tiny bit. Yet she’s sleeping, running/playing, and eating like normal.

I have fawns that are about 3 weeks only now. I started them on goats milk from day 1, but have been transitioning to cows milk because goats milk is really hard to come by here. Their poop has always been like golden toothpaste coming out. I think it’s the goats milk. One of my fawn’s poop has gotten mucus and blood in it. That’s another issue though. I think it got something from the dirt I brought in. I’ve got to have its poop tested to see what’s going on.

If u add a tsp of pumpkin to the bottle it will help firm the stool and make sure they are getting fresh dirt as well. Once we did this our doe fawns stool firmed up from the yellow brownish toothpaste texture to brownish green and firmer still not round pellets but firm. Hope this helps. Also use organic pumpkin they have it at grocery store used for pies.

Every fawn is different our little doe fawn poops good twice daily it started as yellow brownish toothpaste texture and after her pumpkin and yogurt in the bottles and getting her some good fresh black dirt from by the creek bed they have firmed up an turned dark brownish with a little green to it. I hope that helps

I changed them to cows milk and their poop actually started changing to compacted pelleted poop (pelleted turd). I do not use red cap. I use milk right from the milk cow, cream on top and all. I get it from my neighbor. They are very sanitary. I shake the jug of milk each time I give them a bottle to mix the cream in good. They do so well on it.

I have since change to cows milk. You can read my full comment below, but it changed their poop for the better. They have done really well on it.
