Well I had to cook breakfast at 6:00am for a customer golf tournament this morning. I didn't get to check my pens at daylight. I got back at lunch and made a round to check on the fawns and was dissapointed again today.

They say lighting don't strike in the same place twice, but I guess alligators do.

I had a maxbo danger buck fawn out of a Auggie doe I bought from David Mcquaig that was born April 27 when the storms came through down here and in Alabama. He was looking great, real big and a very early start.

Guess what, another gator had dug under the fence and got him last night. I can't find the fawn any where, but I found where the gator dug under and saw his tracks. So evidently they come in pairs and he knew exactly where to come back to, because both the Maxbo buck fawn and the Maxbo Danger buck fawn were in the same pen together. This is very very sad. I guess I will be up all night tonight on the watch. I have worried over dogs and even people shooting them, but I never dreamed this would happen. I must have the worst of luck! They got my best two buck fawns on the whole place. How could they have picked them out of 40 other fawns is a mystery to me.

I guess it just wasn't meant for me to have them. I am about as down as a deer farmer can get right now. I hope I can get some revenge, and real soon!!!!

That is just unreal Chris! I can't believe all the trouble with those alligators. I know your sick about it and I share your pain. I've been there before with dogs. Lost the whole crop one year!

DearJohn, I donated $500.00 and 2 doe fawns to be picked up at my farm at a online auction to you I believe. If I have the right person that dogs got into the pen with last year. If you are not the right person tell me your story. I will help if you need deer.

Thanks Jason, I have a hot wire all the way around all of pens just for dogs and coyotes,

But I guess it don't work on alligators. maybe because of thier thick hide, because he had to have gotten into the wire where he dug under the fence. At first today I thought it may have been a dog, but if a dog would have gotten in there he would have run everything into the fence and they would have broke thier neck. I have 4 grown does in this same pen and they are fine. I also looked at how he dug under the fence and saw the big wide gator claw made in the dirt to dig the hole. I was also very wide where he used his front legs to make the hole wide enough to get his belly under. It is no Doubt it was another gator. They also say that they will carry thier prey back to water to let it rott and then eat it. The first night all he left was a head but last night he took he whole fawn because there wasn't a trace of fawn, blood or anything. Just the hole where he dug under the fence. I will be watching tonight. He will b back because he knows where to come for easy food now.

I really know this is may not be a sad story to everybody out there, but is was really sad for me. I used Texas Tea semen in my does this year and I also bought the bred doe to Maxbo Danger from Cougar Ridge Whitetails- David Mcquaig.

They have both heard this story and seen the pics. Micheal- Texas Tea-Hieter offered me a buck fawn out of his herd. David also said he would do something for me. The Bred Maxbo Danger doe I got from David also had a doe fawn that was born dead the night of the storm.

Niether one of these guys are responsible for my for what has happened to my fawns but they are willing to help. This is what real deer farmers are all about in my book. I appreciate the respect and offering from each of you guys.

I am not sure I will take either of you up on your offer yet because I like to do things on my own. But it is nice to know somebody is there when you need them. I can only hope that someday I will have some deer the same caliber of both of you guys. Continue to watch my yearlings I may suprise somebody, If I can get rid of the Gators. Thanks guys!!!

Chris,

If you need a nap tonight try this.

take about a 20 ft rope and tie to a tree or something very solid outside the fence where the gator is coming in.

put a huge fish hook on end of rope. Try about a 6" long hook and very sharp.

Put something fresh on the hook, a large fish, a rabbit, a chicken.

hang it about 2 ft off the ground by tying a very light string on the rope so that the gator can break the tie string.

He will come back and swallow the chicken with hook in it whole. When he gets to the end of your rope the hook and chicken will be in his gut and it will not come out.

When you come back in the morning he will be right there.

Enjoy the fried alligator.

Bill

Sorry for your loss chris! That just plain sucks!!

well I just home I missed my sons baseball game tonight. I was so worried about the fawns and gators. I should have went to his game. They won 10 to 0 and I was so proud.

Sometimes this deer farming gets in the way of other things that are more important.

But my son is only 9 years old and he can run a weed eater and a zero turn mower better than most grown men. I also have a daughter that wrote a book when she was 11 years old. So I could camplain all night long. Yes I lost two of my best buck fawns to an alligator, but I still have my family. Also Micheal, You will still get a signed copy.

OK guys. Here is our buck Hard Rock. He was 304 last year after he broke about 30 inches off. Let us know what you think of him so far, were very excited to have him. We have a 50 straw package for sale right now for a very resonable price if anyone is interested. All the bucks look great guys!
