Here is a really nice framed Birchwood/Blitzen yearling from Neeby since he can't figure out how to post pictures. I have to say for his first ever group of bucks on the farm they're all lookin pretty darn good!

Jason: Those two year olds and the yearling look great. I know how hard it is to get our deer in the south to blow up with the extreme heat and the conditions that go along with it. Good job.

Josh: Your deer looks good too. Remember it's not how you start but how you finish.

Everybodies are really on the move now and look good, really like 38 special and the Neeby yearling!!

I appreciate the comments, but you are too kind Wayne. There are a lot of great deer from Texas to Florida this year. I like being termed the South when referenced about this industry. I think you will continue to see advancement in the South!-Jason

This looks like a year for great deer. Hope you enjoy looking at this update. Its heard to get a good picture of HBA, his antlers are so heavy...his antlers are constantly on the ground. Sam, you've had this problem before...what did you do? - Loyd

Loyd,

When a buck starts laying them on the ground it usually means trouble. Remember the year of of Sudden Impact, BamBam, and Timberjack? The industry lost some great bucks that year and we almost lost Timberjack.

You have to watch them very carefully and if they get infected from rubbing on the ground or fence too much, they will need to come off. I am worried about RolexBy10 because he is not balanced. He is starting to tilt his head to the left. The rest of them have a little head wobble but seem to be doing ok. Timberjack has not yet started forward with the drops so he is fine for now.

Just watch and be ready with all the supplies needed to remove the antlers. You can't let an antler infection get very far along or it will be too late!

Good Luck to all! There are so many good ones out there that we all need to be prepared!

Texas Tea is starting to warm up to the camera just a little.

The yearling in the picture with him has a pretty decent frame. Tea is a HUGE bodied deer, so hopefully this provides a little scale and perspective to how big he really is.

I've been hesitant to post pictures because he has so much more growing to do yet it's crazy. Late July and August are his best months for growth.

You know, I recall the pictures of HBA that I saw last year, and this deer had his head tilted in a lot of those pictures, too! Did you saw him off then, or did you wait for the velvet to shed and then saw him?

Your correct Philip, he had this problem last year also but not as severe and not as early. I was afraid he had an ear infection and treated him for one with no results until I cut antlers. He was pretty dry when I cut but was not rubbed off well. I guess his antlers were to heavy for him to rub off comfortable. Didn't you get some fawns from him and what were their sexes and how many. All the does I put in with him after AI stuck so I have one doe fawn from a little 12 month old. No other doe fawns around that I know of unless you have some. I have one other 12 month old out there that I am expecting to fawn any day. Loyd L. Ervin
