As long as we have forward and backwards trace backs a closed herd is of little use!
How many deer have left P.A for example and gone to other states with no CWD in the last 5 years ?
And you have brought a deer in in the past that make up your current herd and had NO idea were that deer had been or his or her mom or dad had been in the past 5 years ? How many deer from Pennsylvania do you think have gone to Ohio,Indiana,Missouri,Oklahoma,Louisiana......ect. in the last 18 monhs alone not to mention the last 5 years.............And have left those states and gone to another after having fawns and been re-a/i'd and sold at auction or privately...............How large a circle would that be ? It's Russian Roulete to say the least!..............But The Feds can track a doe fawn down from 5 years ago from a positive,A cow with a positve for Mad Cow from Wisc. to Main. to Mo. and EVERY barn she slept in...................But CAN'T track down 11 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!!!.................********!!
WE ALL HAVE DEER BOUGHT OR SOLD TO OR FROM A POSSIBLE,PROBABLE,EVENTUAL............................CWD POSITIVE! Time is NOT on OUR side WE are ALL on the CLOCK.............IT's NOT IF..................It's WHEN!
If you get caught in a trace back from a positive farm and they trace it back to you (Mike) and even though you have had a closed herd for the next 4 years...............yep YOUR TOAST!
The Trace back is the noose they will and are using to help choke us to our knees!
Folks if we don't change things SOON in this Industry............WE are @#%%^!........If You don't think so call and talk to the folks who feel they are on the bottom of the deer industry food chain............The folks who just want to raise deer,Who want to raise good shooters,Who want to have their Families involved,Who are NOT buying the big dollar semen,Who are happy selling their shooters and having alittle extra money in their pocket because this is HAS always been fun for them and their families..............
Well those folks Who make up the foundation of this business are BAILING OUT............Scared to death of What it would be like if they had a POSITIVE come back on their farm and DON'T have they money to fight or feed THEIR animals for 5 years! The same scary situation the Brakke's are facing right now!
These are the folks WHO are slowly being erroded by The Rules....The Regulations...Feed Prices.....EHD losses And the list goes on and on!
I know many of you won't get what I'm saying because WE just can't admit that we are disappearing from the landscape at an ALARMING rate!
If WE don't do SOMETHING to stop this VERY VERY SOON............. WE ...............May soon be Us..................Then YOU and ME and then..............ONLY .....YOU!
