Deer Loose, Need help!

Just another option if you have some junk fence laying around I woul go right inside of the gate and make a little corral so that it keeps your deer away from the gate and lets the loose one in. The if you pens are close to the house take an extension cord run it out to the gate. Put a motion light next to the gate so that it would sensor if something comes in. The instead of a bulb put one of those outlet bulb things that you can plug a cord into so when the light is triped it turns the outlet on. Now this is where it gets interesting. put a spring on the gate so it pulls the gate shut. pull the gate open and tie it open with some sotering wire. that way the door is open. Then rig a sotering iron up so the tip is resting on the wire and then plug it into the outlet. Then put feed in back corner of your temp coral. This way when the deer enters the coral the motion light turns on which turns the sotering iron on, melts the wire which lets the gate spring shut. And there you have your deer and you dont have to spend every hour of the night sitting there looking for her. Remember to take the other bulb out of the light if it is a two bulb unit, becuase you dont want the deer to spook.

Hey Jared that is pretty darn creative.........with my luck though i would have a bear, yote or wild dog trip the thing and have them get locked in with the deer........no that really is a great idea though. I will have to put that pne in the book of tricks for in the future.

Well, a quick update. Neither deer has come back to the pen. I set cameras up immediately after they got loose, all around the pen to allow me to see if they came back when I wasnt looking. Nothing yet.

Sorry to hear that True Country. Keep your eyes open and be patient, you know how curious deer are. It's in their nature to explore and especially to munch on new varieties of plants and grasses. However, I am confident that eventually they will want to come back to familiar ground and especially for feed. Did you have a chance to speak with your vet so that you have what you need if they come back? Let me know if I can help.

i bet they are just like any other critter (or teenager for that matter), they get loose, run wild a bit, then eventually make their way back home.........

4 years ago i had 3 doe 2 buck fawns and a 3 year old all get out i left the gate to the front pen open with feed in it and it wasonly about 8 hours later that we had every deer back and out of harms way

I have had two get out, one of them paced the fence wanting back is as soon as she relized she was away from the others she was mother raised but tame. The second was bottle raised she got out at the same time and took off for 3 days before I ever seen her but on the third day I was out feeding and she came running up to the pin and walked right in when I opened the gate. Only thing that would bother me this time of year is that there are bow hunters in the woods. wish you luck

Bow Season is less than 2 weeks out here.........and we are seeing Spotted fawns still out there.late rut ...almost had 1 run into my truck on Saturday....Funny hubby said "want me to back up and get it?".........i think NOT.......hahaaa

we have sooooooooo many deer around here, they are hit all the time. :( I folded up my work car (full size Impala) 3 years ago on a 10 pt and I was going 40 mph......I got the biggest buck of the season in my family ! lol

I have had deer out and they all came back but I can move deer to have one pen completely empty and leave the gate open just a bit and put feed in the opposite end and just check after dark , 9 PM , and 10:30 PM , and before light in the AM. I had a buck out once in October for 5 days and he came back.... so don't worry too much , just be ready to get the gate open for them when they show. You need a plan to get the others out of the way and a long rope to open and close the gate when they are near. Most will follow you through the gate when the come home. Good luck Jim

well the doe has come back, has been hanging out around the pen. she will let me get within about 20 feet of her, so i rigged a coral with a trap door so she can get in. hopefully she will be back in tonight. i will keep you update. thanks again everyone

What buck got out? It wasn't the piebald was it? and the doe was probably vixens mother I am guessing.

Keep us posted.
