Henry,

You are a good guy and you certainly didn't owe Dearjohn any explanations. keep doing what your doing and being who your being.......I know when I need something you are who I call! Keep up the great work!

Henry, Keep doin what you do and just IGNORE the NAY SAYERS!!!! There just lookin to get under your skin...........NOT help anyone!

Tom,Sorry to hear about your loss.A few years back we lost a doe with twin fawns in her. The dog owners home owners insurance paid for all three deer.

What helped was our township had a law against dogs running loose. You might want to check county & township for info.

D,J,R,E,and W you are to funny. First I didn't say anything bad about Henry. Second the whole dog issue or coyote issue has been on here dozens of times. If you are interested in deer farming then you do what I did read all the old forum then all the new forum. The topics that are interesting anyways. Not all the bragging crap. I guess some of you people would rather learn by your own mistakes. Please post them when it happens so those of us that like to learn can. I have no problem with Henry. I do have a problem with idiots. Go find your funny bone. Again thanks for the laugh.

I'm forutnate (or unfortunate) to own several thousand acres acres of un deer fenced bush (woodland). There is good hunting & I practice game management. Pigs are particularly abundent.

I keep this as a buffer zone around some of the more exotic animals I raise. Hemorraghic viruses come in more varieties than just EHD & the several klm's between my animals & the neighbours maggot taxi's (sheep) is worth the effort.

My biggest problem is not the pigs but the poachers they attract. The guys who hunt with pig dogs illegally (without permission). I would have had pig dogs in my enclosures at least seven times in the last twelve months & lost close to 30 animals to pigdogs in that period. Yes! I shoot them all & certainly don't shut up about it. I have a good relationship with the local plod, but the courts don't issue harsh penalties. Also most pig hunters only own a dog, they would have no assets to persue in civil courts.

My best defence is my reputation, being a "Grizzly Adams" has its benefits.

The irony, is that through my other roles (hunting ,game management ,animal managent, future leaders), I find that I'm also pighunters greatest advocate. In the last six months this has include defending the rights of legal pig hunters in parliament & at the Aust Institute of Animal Management (a speaker there last year). The executive of the pig hunting orgs are working to resolve some of the issues regarding licencing, insurance, etc. So hopefully these loses that I have along with others can be prevented in future. My opinion is that no particular breed of dog is worse than another. Its the dog owners & their failure to keep their animals. I'm also anti "breed specific legislation".

As for Henry Martin ?

G'day mate! Hope your well. I wish we had a bloke as keen as you down here!

Cheers Sharkey

Well after shooting one dog and having a heart to heart with a stupid woman that does not understand that dogs love to chase anything that will run from them. I found out she is a single month with kids and no home owner insurance. She was still letting her dogs run loose. After explaining how stupid she is and that I can sue her and put a lean on her house and garnish her wages, she began to see the light. Know I would have to throw good money after bad I told her I would keep her out of court as long as she got rid of her out side dogs and never get anymore until she has a fence to keep them up. Which she agreed to. Dogs are now gone and so are two of my deer. I put signs up in front of my house stating the law and no dogs allowed signs up. It's a small town so the word is out. A nabor came over ad said if I see one of his dogs out please shoot it cause he does not want to buy dead deer. So still very pissed but at least something got done. Thanks for all the comments Tom

WELL handled Tom....better days ahead!!! :)

How can you have a home and no insurance. I'm poor, but i still have insurance.

Im glad its over for you Tom.

The best thing I have found for stray or other peoples dogs(besides double fence or hot wire ) are dogs of my own my deer are use to our dogs so its no big deal when there around they will play with my pit and hound like they were dogs there selves but let another dog come around and its hell around there the deer will actually run up to the fence and try to bluff the strays away. Its pretty funny

Thanks for the post.

I too just put deposit down on a Great Pyrenees. I plan on starting the pup in the deer pen and then as it gets a little older, installing about two acres of underground fence so it can patrol that area at night.

Yeah guess i will be going to court she got her dogs back from where ever she took them and are now still loose. Stupid lady is now getting hit with a small claims court charge (max is 7500.00) !!! Can't believe she is so stupid!!!!!

She obviously doesn't really love her dogs....and shouldn't own them! she deserve everything she gets...I hope the Dogs come out on the better end!! But, it usually doesn't work that way unfortunately!

I have two dogs of my own and the deer don't get scared of them but these dogs where charging at the fence and kept going until my wife finally got them to leave deer know them difference in play and no play
