Drought effects

Wayne,

We get it from Kalmbach feeds in Sandusky OH. The are the makers of Heartland feed. A 50lb bags to me looks to be 2 bales chopped up so 15.00 a bag is not bad at all and the deer love it.

About how many deer-days are in a bag?

Phillip,

We buy "Lucerne" chopped dehydrated alfalfa hay that comes in a 50 lb bag.

They eat all but a couple handfuls of stemmy stuff out of it. cost is about $15 a bag. I will not buy any other form of hay they eat it so well. They just waste too much of baled hay.

whats the exact name of this product there, is it listed on their website?

Thanks.

Of course how much of the chopped hay they eat depends on a lot of things like the time of year and the ground cover you have in your pen. We introduced it for the first time when the drought started to hit. 20 bucks were going through about 1 bag every 7-10 days when the grass was drying up. Now since we have had rain they are hardly eating any. I went on their site and they do not list hardly any of their forage products. We are using their forage pellets on the fawns along with the Pine Creek Feed. Both products pellets are pretty small and easy for them to eat. They mix our feed for the adults from a recipe that we have. They pelletize all the adatives. They clean up the feed much better now.
