Sandridge Whitetails, Mark.
Wow! Thanks for your hartfelt & well considered response.
You are talking long term, industry, sustainability, culture & not just score or inches.
Finding a middle ground could be considered a start (not an end ).
We call this middle ground the "continuum of acceptability",& It does shift for & against us, driven by the public opinion cycle.
To take this approach the industry needs to work on its acceptability (public opinion),not just to hunters, but Mr & Mrs average.
Getting rid of the bad guys or helping them lift their game,if possible.(codes of practice)
The continuum needs to shift in our favour.
Has it been?
Why not?
Fair chase is only one part of the continuum.
World wide we are going through this.(together, like it or not)
Size of enclosures is the "big issue",like it or not.(canned hunts)
Cheers Sharkey
PS. I did say I'd stay ouy of this. But ,You tube footage of US "hunters" in ridiculously small enclosures is hurting your/our mates throughout the world.(codes of practice,"please")
