My 7 week old bottle fed twin fawns are not pooping on their own yet. They were both less than 4 pounds when they were born and late bloomers. So, we have been continuing to stimulate them. How long should we let them go before we try an enema or something else?

Most of you guys know me and I'm a little lazy so when it comes to stimulation on the fawns after a week or two I quite doing it.  I only stimulate them one time a day.  I will only work back there if they have messed themselves then I clean it up.  After a week or two when I see them peeing and the first time I see them pooping they are on their own I'm done.  This has never caused me a problem in the last fifteen years.  I figure what goes in got to come out.  Now constipation is a different story and you might have to give an enema at 48 hours.

I'm with Jack!

But IF they Are not going..........Just a Drop or Two of Mineral Oil in their bottle will usually do the trick................But Remember a DROP or TWO.............Just as Easily as they are PLUGGED..............They can get LOOSE Twice as fast!!

Hi, I had to stimulate my fawn up until a week ago when he finally is going on his own now.  (He will be 11 weeks in 4 days.)  When he was about 3 weeks old he was constipated and after 2 days I called the vet.  He said I could use room temp mineral oil from the drug store and a syringe for an enema. I did this while I fed him his bottle so he didn't even notice.  It worked like a charm and he has been fine ever since.
