Well, I got up today to find our two baby girl's dead! With large dog tracts all around the outside of the pen! I feel so down just so low we only had those two girl's an I spent everyday with them they we're my buddies, I feel so cheated.... We had privacy fence and shade cloth around our pen along with predator wire and electric fencing! I guess double fencing is the only way to go from here.... I'm lost for words and still just devastated! I don't understand it and don't know that I'm suppose to. I know that the good Lord will see us through! Just felt like venting I guess... So I guess I'm a deer farming on a bad day without any deer.

So I guess I'll talk about them Paisley was our first deer she wasn't bottle fed but she was definitely coming around she would come running to the gate every morning looking for her peanut that I always made her work so hard for building trust she would come all the way to just out of reach of my hand stick her neck out and glare at me with those big brown wide open eyes just knowing I was up to somethin then I would drop it and she would pick it up and wait for the next trick lol now Amora was my lil buddy for sure she too would come running knowing that I was going to have goodies but she would just love on ya almost be in the way most the time. I would hold a peanut high above her an she would stand up and get her treat or I would hold a peanut in my lips and she would gently take it from me! I could still pick her up at seven months old she was my big lap deer! Gotta say I feel so bad for them but in away I know they're with our almighty God! My wife always says God sure knew what he was doing when he made water! Well I gotta say he sure knew what he was doing when he created a Whitetail deer!!!

So sorry to hear this Ezra.  I know how you feel, losing several to ehd over a year ago and lost a doe fawn (hung her hind leg in the fence) that I was really looking forward to in the future.  We had dogs chase ours the first winter we had them.Luckily we didn't lose any but one was effected for months, wouldn't gain weight and looked terrible, she finally came out of it.  It hurts losing your bottle fed babies.

It's hard to understand, some of the TAMEST act the stupidest when things like this happen.   The two that were  worse for the wear from our chase were the two tamest.  Sorry to say but a bullet in the head is the only way to take care of the dog problem.  Unknowingly at the time ours was our neighbors young dog.  He came over shortly after and asked if Coby had seen his dog.  yep, and I had to take care of the problem.  I think the bigger your pen the less effect it has on them when the dogs are around.

Man, I am so sorry!..... I know how you feel! I just want to cry!

If I may ask, Did the dog get them?

I go out and check on mine all of the time. My friends think I am crazy!

Nope just sent them barreling above the shade cloth to their death.

So sorry to hear this news buddy. I have to ask how big your pen-pens are?  If you are in a tight area where people and dogs are around you may need more room or double fence to keep them safe. Sorry but in this world not everyone or everything thinks or cares about our deer like we do.  If you can get your pen areas figured out as to where something like this is less likely to happen( as we all know we cant keep them 100% safe no matter what we do)  you are welcome to take a look at our website and pick out a breeding of your liking and im sure we can get you and your girls a fawn or two to bottle feed this summer! Just cost ya the price of milk and bottles! Once a farmer..Always a farmer!

Mike,

Wow just when I thought I had it together I'm all tears again like a baby in a steel mill again! Wow you want to talk about making a man feel humble I don't even know what to say! Reading that was like the comforting Hand of God. The wife and I have already decided a sixteen foot wide alley secondary fence. I'm at a loss for words thank you for such a blessing and another good cry at work lol!

Not alone Ezra. When I brought my first deer home it only took two months. Came home from work to find all my deer bleeding from the mouth heads swollen half their hair gone and one broke jaw. All survived but it was sickening watching them recover. If you own deer it's not if, it's when. What state are you in?

Sorry to hear about this. Since we have started we have seen our share of ups and downs with these wonderful creatures. Seemed like no matter what times it was good or bad someone else was always there to experience it with us.

Deer fascinate people and the children love to interact with them. We always have people offer to help weather we needed it or not. This is just our chance to do the same.

We to would like to help you guys. The offer is out there for a doe fawn this year as well.

Currently in Atlanta, Ga working but will be coming home Saturday. Going right past your place. Would be glad to stop by. Talk a little deer and get you some info on what we have coming up this year.

Best Regards,

Dude so sorry to hear I understand you put your heart and soul into them like they are your own children you watch them grow up and some stupid **** like that happens. I cry every time I lose a bottle baby cause they are my babies. So freaken sorry to hear you were so proud of them. I will be honest double fencing might help but the deer have a sense that we don't have they know something is there that is not supposed to be there they will still freak out. Fix the problem if you know what I mean...

Ezra, so sorry to read about your loss. It never gets any easier.  These animals just seem to have the knack for breaking our hearts. I'm sure you and your family will get through this tragedy. It's so warming to see that others are willing to help you get going again. If I can help, just give me a call. Keep the Faith and God Bless.  Allen

Ezra, So sorry. I bottlefed for 12 years with a number of those animals alive on our farm today and a number of heartaches along the way. It is heartbreaking when you lose them. Like with all of our animals, you feel a sense of responsibility to take care of them to your best ability. When something goes wrong you beat yourself up for something you think you could have or should have done. Hang in there.

Mike, That was awesome! We have some really wonderful people in this industry.

We have does up here for you too Ezra!  Just make the trip up and see us and go home with deer!  We're always here for you brother!!!

Ezra I just heard this bad news!!! I don't know what to say that could even come close to making you feel better. Time. That's what it will take! Remember everything you learnt from them and know they will make your future herd stronger!!! But I would love to offer you guys any of my bottle fed does , Ryan did all my bottle feeding and there all really cool!! AND bred to my War Factor ,( son of Max Factor ) so you could have babies this spring!!!! Hang in there ,things will get better.... With time. Your pal Charlie.

Man,

It's moments like this that I know I'm blessed! The support from each and everyone of you is humbling. Megan and I have talked and have decided that we are going to learn from this and rush nothing! As bad as we would love to get some babies ASAP, we feel like there's gotta be a change to what we are doing before we risk anymore precious lives! So we will take this spring and summer to revamp our program and even longer if necessary to design and build our farm! I know without a doubt the township will have less dogs by the end of the summer without a doubt! We're going into this time with a deeper passion and a lot of knowledge! Again you all really don't understand the blessing it is to know we have you with US! I'm so very greatly thankful to each and everyone of you!

Ezra .... Could you track that dog? Do you have snow, because if you could track him back to his owner and tell him nicely( I know how hard that will be! ) that there will be no more warnings!! That's what I did and word spread and after about 4 diff. Visits from people looking for there dogs , no more dogs came around!! Just point to your shooting eye and tell them you will " keep a eye out for there dog" they will buy a kennel!! I know this doesn't help ease the pain of your loss tho!! Charlie.

Megan and Ezra,

I'm really sorry for your loss.  That's my worst fear.  I went as far as getting cameras on my pens so if it happened, I could seek restitution but I think the best thing I did was get a Great Pyrenees Dog to look after them.  She barks every second from the time the neighbor lets her dogs out to the time they go back in.  Then, she barks a lot during the night, keeping predators away.  It's not a guarantee but I sleep a lot better at night knowing she is there.  If you search previous posts, there's some info on Great Pyrenees.  Again, I'm sorry.

Do the people that have a Great Pyrenees let them roam the ally ways? And when the dog goes into action the Deer are okay?
