I have milk goats, so I tend to bottlefeed everything goats milk. I raise bottle calves every year- right on my goats. Goat hops on the milk stand, calf drinks his fill.

That is freakin hilarious!!!!:D:D:D:D

I would love to see a pic of that....

Jill, I know goat's milk is expensive, but perhaps you can supplement her formula with a few bottles of goat's milk. I found that the goat's milk firmed up her poop the best.

She should be offered fresh greens everyday, some fruit, berries, leaves, veggies, grains (like calf manna or corn, oat, barley mix). If she still had her umbilical cord attached, likely the fawn was only a few days old. My Rosa was also a few days old when I got her 2 years ago at the end of May. I vaccinated her at the age of 3-4 months with Covexin-8 and EHD vaccine. Some DVMs don't like to vaccinate until they are weaned. Thing is... Rosa was not weaned off of the bottle until 1.5 years of age!!! hehehe. I always gave her milk even when she was grown b/c I found it was a nice way to giver her meds and to keep her tame and very loving. Yes, you guessed it, she was not releasable into the wild. I still have her, she's living on a farm, and she's a big big girl! Just saw her today, she loved on me, placed her head in my hands, tilted her head and closed her eyes, began to fall asleep. They connect with the person who is bottle feeding them, and retain the attachment for life, I think. I am able to vaccinate her now and clip her hooves (when necessary) just by walking up to her and doing what needs to be done. She allows me to brush her, to clean out her eyes (if she has fur stuck in them), she lets me open her mouth to check her teeth, etc. She lifts up her tail and back legs for me to comb and brush her undersides. She allows me to spray her with fly repellant... She fully trusts me. I just adore her.

Goat's milk, goat's milk, goat's milk... next to mamma's milk, there's nothing better for a fawn. the proof is in the poop.

Dont forget that goats milk can also cause health problems for the fawn!!!

I'm not familiar with any health problems that a healthy goat's milk could induce? Are you referring to Johnne's Diseased goats?

I know in Illinois if your goats milk doesn't come from a TB brucellosus certified herd or the milk has been pasturized by a inspected facility you will lose your herd accreditation. For a pet like yours that may not be a problem but someone that wants to sell there deer especially out of state, could be in trouble.

Good to know. There are several goat farmers in my area and their facilities are very impressive- I never realized that TB/bruc was a prob. with goat's too. They are usually such healthy and finicky animals... Thank you Buckskin.

Johnnes and white muscle i believe can be brought on by dirty goats milk!! We had friends that lost a few fawns with the goats milk!!

I think that white muscle disease is easily treated with Thiamine injection.

Thats great that there is something out there that might help... I cant see why you would take the chance for them to get it in the first place though?
